Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Tubs and Washing Basins

Plastic tubs and washing basins are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP copolymer, HDPE or recycled PP blends. Because the part is wide and fairly shallow, clamping force is set by the footprint rather than the part weight. Rim design and even base cooling decide whether a full tub survives a drop and sits flat.

Tub moulds are wide, so selection looks at tie-bar spacing, platen size and clamping force before shot weight. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for tub and basin moulding and can recommend a configuration for your size range.

Machine Requirements for Plastic Tub Moulding

An open tub is a large flat projection with a short wall, and that changes what the machine has to provide:

  • Clamping force matched to the full tub footprint
  • Tie-bar spacing wide enough for a broad mould
  • Ribbed or rolled rim filled solid without short shots
  • Even base cooling so the tub sits flat
  • Nesting draft kept consistent for stacked dispatch
  • Stable fill with recycled PP of varying melt flow

Recommended Machine for Plastic Tubs

Small basins and shallow tubs can run on the E Series (75-180 T). Mid-size washing tubs usually move to the C Series (140-320 T), and the H Series (120-350 T) handles wider moulds and heavier rims. Large bathing and laundry tubs may need more clamping force, and those are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What tub and basin makers ask most when sizing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plastic Tubs?
A horizontal machine whose clamping force and tie-bar space suit the tub footprint. Pratishna Engineers matches basins to the E Series and larger tubs to the C or H Series, with bigger tools reviewed on request.
  • Why Is Tub Tonnage Higher Than the Part Weight Suggests?
Clamping force depends on the projected area under injection pressure. A wide tub has a large area even though the wall is thin, so the press is sized by diameter, not by the weight of plastic.
  • How Do You Stop a Tub Base from Warping?
Warpage on a wide base usually comes from uneven cooling or wall thickness. Balanced cooling channels, ribs under the base and gating that fills the part evenly help it sit flat after ejection.
  • How Is Rim Strength Built Into a Tub?
A rolled or ribbed rim gives stiffness without thickening the whole wall. The rim must fill completely, so venting and injection speed are set to avoid short shots at the far edge.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plastic Tub?
Yes. Share the tub drawing or sample, diameter and depth, material, part weight, mould dimensions and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Bathroom and Laundry Products Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould plastic buckets, plastic trays, dustpans and soap dish and bathroom accessory parts, depending on the size of each mould.
