PET Injection Moulding Machines

Pratishna Engineers manufactures PET injection moulding machines used to produce PET preforms for bottles and jars in water, carbonated soft drink, juice, edible oil, dairy, personal care and pharma packaging. The machine melts dried PET resin and injects it into a multi-cavity preform mould, where the neck finish is formed to its final size and the body is later stretch blow moulded into a bottle.

Pratishna Engineers is one of the top and trusted PET injection moulding machine manufacturers in India. The Mumbai-based company has 35+ years of experience and has supplied 9,000+ machines to 1,000+ customers, offering PET machines from 75 to 260 tons for preform makers and packaging converters, backed by in-house engineering and after-sales support.

PET behaves differently from commodity plastics. It absorbs moisture and must be dried before moulding, it degrades if held too hot or too long in the barrel, and it forms acetaldehyde that can affect the taste of water and soft drinks. A PET machine therefore needs a screw and barrel suited to PET, close temperature control and stable injection so that preform weight, intrinsic viscosity (IV) and clarity stay within specification.

The right PET machine depends on the preform weight, neck finish, number of cavities, required output and the resin, including any rPET content. Share your preform drawing, neck finish and target output with Pratishna Engineers to identify a suitable PET injection moulding machine and configuration.

PET Injection Moulding Machines by Tonnage

Pratishna PET injection moulding machines are available in seven clamping-force options from 75 to 260 tons. Smaller machines suit low-cavity moulds for jar and wide-mouth preforms and shorter runs, while higher tonnages carry more cavities for high-volume water and soft drink preforms.

Select a model by preform weight, neck finish, cavity count and the output needed per hour. Cavities and shot weight, not preform size alone, decide the clamping force and platen size required.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

The answers our engineers give most often, before a specification is agreed.

  • What Is a PET Preform Injection Moulding Machine?
It is an injection moulding machine set up to process PET resin into preforms. The preform carries the finished neck and is later reheated and stretch blow moulded into a bottle or jar on a separate blow moulding machine.
  • Which Pratishna PET Machine Is Suitable for My Preform?
The suitable model depends on preform weight, neck finish, number of cavities and required output. Pratishna PET machines are available at 75, 100, 125, 150, 180, 220 and 260 tons, and the model is confirmed from your preform and mould details.
  • How Many Cavities Can a PET Machine Run?
Cavity count depends on preform weight, neck finish, platen size, tie-bar space and shot capacity. Smaller machines run low-cavity moulds for jars and heavier preforms, while higher tonnages carry more cavities for light water and soft drink preforms. The exact count is confirmed from the mould design.
  • Why Must PET Be Dried Before Moulding?
PET absorbs moisture from the air. If it is moulded wet, the polymer chains break down, intrinsic viscosity falls and preforms become weak and hazy. PET is usually dried in a dehumidifying dryer at around 160 to 170 degrees C for four to six hours, to a moisture level below about 50 ppm.
  • What Is Acetaldehyde and How Is It Controlled in Preforms?
Acetaldehyde (AA) forms when PET is overheated or sheared, and in water bottles it can affect taste. It is kept low through correct melt temperature, a screw suited to PET, short residence time in the barrel and a hot runner without hot spots.
  • Can Pratishna PET Machines Process rPET?
PET machines can process food-grade rPET pellets, usually blended with virgin resin. Under the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2026, rigid plastic packaging in India must contain 40 percent recycled content in 2026-27, rising to 60 percent. rPET needs thorough drying and close monitoring of IV and colour, since both vary more than in virgin resin.
  • Which Neck Finishes Can Be Moulded on a PET Machine?
Common finishes include PCO 1881 and 1810 for carbonated drinks, 29/25 and 26/22 short necks for water, 38 mm finishes for juice and dairy, and wide-mouth finishes for jars. The neck finish is set by the mould, and the machine is selected for the preform weight and cavity count.
  • What Auxiliary Equipment Does a PET Preform Line Need?
A dehumidifying dryer, hopper loader, chiller or mould temperature controller, hot runner controller and preform handling and cooling equipment. The complete line should be planned together with the machine so that drying capacity matches output.
  • Are Closures for PET Bottles Made on a PET Machine?
No. PET bottle closures are usually moulded in HDPE or PP on standard high-speed machines such as the Pratishna C Series, in multi-cavity hot runner moulds. The PET machine is used for the preforms.
  • What Is the Price of a PET Injection Moulding Machine?
There is no single fixed price. Cost depends on clamping force, injection unit, cavity count, hot runner and mould requirements, drying and auxiliary equipment, and automation. Pratishna Engineers provides a quotation based on your preform and output requirement.
  • Can Pratishna Check Whether My Existing Preform Mould Will Fit?
Yes. Share the mould dimensions, mould height, tie-bar requirement, shot weight, cavity count and hot runner zones, and Pratishna Engineers will check compatibility with a suitable PET machine.
  • Does Pratishna Provide Installation and Operator Training?
Yes. Pratishna Engineers provides installation, commissioning, operator training and after-sales technical support. The exact scope of support is confirmed with the quotation and machine supply terms.
