Injection Moulding Machine for Dustbins and Waste Bins

Dustbins and waste bins are made on large horizontal injection moulding machines from PP copolymer, HDPE or recycled PP and HDPE. Projected area of the body sets clamping force, and bin depth sets the opening stroke. Impact-modified copolymer matters most, since homopolymer bins crack at the base corners.

For bins, machine selection centres on clamping force for the body footprint, daylight for a deep mould and a full body shot. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and two-platen injection moulding machines for dustbin bodies and lids and can recommend a configuration, with larger sizes discussed on request.

Machine Requirements for Dustbin Moulding

A bin body is deep and wide, has to drop cleanly off a long core and must survive knocks and drops. Points to plan for:

  • Clamping force set by the projected area of the body
  • Opening stroke and daylight for a deep bin mould
  • Impact-modified PP copolymer against base corner cracking
  • UV grade for outdoor and cold-climate bins
  • Air-assisted ejection to release the body from a deep core
  • Separate small tools for lid, pedal, hinge and foot

Recommended Machine for Dustbins and Waste Bins

Small and mid-size household bins fit the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T). Deeper bodies that need more mould height and opening stroke suit the Two-Platen PHM Series (160-350 T). Larger bins whose body needs more clamping force than these series give are discussed on request, and lids and pedals run on smaller machines.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What bin makers usually ask before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Dustbins and Waste Bins?
The choice follows bin capacity. Smaller household bins run on the H or C Series, deep bodies on the PHM Series, and bins beyond these sizes are discussed with Pratishna Engineers on request.
  • Why Do Some Bins Crack at the Base Corners?
Homopolymer PP turns brittle at the corners under impact, more so in cold weather. Impact-modified PP copolymer or HDPE holds up better, and generous corner radii with even base wall thickness reduce cracking.
  • Can Recycled PP or HDPE Be Used for Bins?
Yes, recycled PP and HDPE are often used. Melt flow can vary between lots, so check each lot, adjust injection speed and pressure, and drop-test moulded bins before release.
  • Are the Lid, Pedal and Hinge Moulded in the Same Tool?
No. Lid, pedal, hinge and foot mechanism are separate small tools and can run on a much smaller machine than the body. Planning them together helps match colour and fit with the body.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Dustbin?
Yes. Share the bin capacity, body and lid drawings or samples, material, part weights, mould dimensions and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Large Household Products Too?
Yes. The same series can mould plastic buckets, plastic tubs, storage boxes and fruit and vegetable baskets, subject to mould size and clamping force.
