Injection Moulding Machine for Water Bottle Caps

Water bottle caps for still water are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from HDPE or PP, in high-cavity hot runner tools. Mould size, cavity count and cap weight decide the machine. Thin walls make fill the main process point, as lightweight caps short-shot at the top panel or thread end when injection is too slow.

For lightweight and tethered caps, machine selection looks at injection speed, mould space for larger tethered tools and an injection unit matched to cap weight. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for water bottle cap production and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Water Bottle Cap Moulding

Lightweighting and tether bands have changed what a water cap mould asks of the machine. Look at these points:

  • Fast injection to fill thin walls before the melt freezes
  • Mould space and tie-bar spacing for larger tethered tools
  • Injection unit sized to the heavier tethered cap shot
  • Hot runner balance across high cavity counts
  • Cooling set for short cycles without cap distortion
  • Tether band moulded ready for downstream slitting and folding

Recommended Machine for Water Bottle Caps

Water caps are light, yet a tethered design can need a bigger mould and more shot weight than the cap it replaces. Moderate cavity tools often suit the E Series (75-180 T). High-cavity tethered moulds usually need the platen area and clamping force of an H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T) machine.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from packaged water and bottling plant teams.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Water Bottle Caps?
Horizontal machines sized by the mould. Standard light caps in moderate cavity tools often fit the E Series. Tethered designs and high-cavity tools tend to need the C or H Series for mould space and clamp.
  • Does a Tethered Cap Need a Different Machine?
Usually not a different type, but sometimes a larger size. Resin and melt behaviour stay much the same, while the tethered tool can be bigger and the cap heavier, so check mould space and injection unit capacity.
  • Why Do Lightweight Caps Get Short Shots?
Thinner walls freeze sooner, so slow injection or a cold hot runner zone leaves the top panel or thread end unfilled. Faster fill, balanced hot runner temperatures and clean vents usually cure it.
  • Is Slitting the Tether Band Part of the Moulding?
No. The cap is moulded with the band attached, and slitting and folding happen at a downstream station in the cell. Plan floor space for that station when laying out the line.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Water Bottle Cap?
Yes. Share the cap drawing or sample, neck finish, tethered or standard design, material, cap weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drink and Food Closures Too?
Yes. This machine class can also produce CSD caps, flip-top caps, spouts and pourers, and tub and container lids, subject to the mould.
