Injection Moulding Machine for Tub and Container Lids
Tub and container lids are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity hot runner moulds, from copolymer PP, IML-grade PP or PS. Tonnage follows the flat projected area and cavity count far more than the light shot weight. Flatness is the main process point, since uneven cooling makes a lid dome or warp and lose its seal.
Selection for lids focuses on clamp force for the wide flat face, quick filling of thin sections and steady cooling for flatness. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for lid moulding and can recommend a configuration based on your lid, the matching tub and the cavity count.

Machine Requirements for Tub and Container Lid Moulding
A lid has to seal the tub, open by hand and stack flat in a carton, all from very little material. Look for:
- Clamp force sized to the full flat projected area
- Centre gating with even cooling to keep lids flat
- Snap bead stripped off the core without stress whitening
- Tamper-evident bridges that break by hand but survive transport
- Lid shrinkage matched to the tub for a sealing fit
- IML label support for lids with branded tops
Recommended Machine for Tub and Container Lids
Small-tub lids in a modest number of cavities are usually within reach of the E Series (75-180 T). Because the flat face drives tonnage, lids for larger tubs and high-cavity hot runner moulds generally need the C Series (140-320 T), with the H Series (120-350 T) for the widest tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions packaging makers ask when planning a lid mould.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Tub and Container Lids?
A horizontal machine chosen by lid diameter and cavities rather than lid weight. Small lids in few cavities often suit the E Series, and wider lids or high-cavity hot runner tools usually need the C or H Series. Why Do Container Lids Warp or Dome After Moulding?
Warpage on a lid usually comes from uneven cooling between the core and cavity sides, or from moulded-in stress near the gate. Balanced mould cooling, a centre gate and enough holding pressure without overpacking keep the lid flat. How Are Tamper-Evident Bridges Moulded on a Lid?
The band is joined to the lid by thin bridges that must fill fully yet stay weak enough to tear by hand. Flash or short shots on the bridges change the break force, so bridge filling and venting need close attention.
Should a Lid Be Moulded in PP or PS?
Copolymer PP lids flex over the tub bead and resist cracking, which suits snap-on and freezer packs. PS gives a stiffer, clearer lid for display but cracks more easily at the snap and the bridges. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Tub and Container Lid?
Yes. Share the lid and tub drawings or samples, material, lid weight, mould size, cavity count, label plan and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Container and Closure Parts Too?
It does. Comparable machines produce thin-wall containers, IML tubs, ice cream containers and tub handles, within the mould size and clamp range of each series.
