Injection Moulding Machine for Ice Cream Containers

Ice cream containers are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines, in thin-wall moulds that often carry in-mould labels, from impact copolymer PP. Machine size is set by the tub or lid projected area, cavity count and the opening stroke for deep tubs. Material choice matters most, because homopolymer PP turns brittle and cracks in freezer storage.

For ice cream packaging, selection weighs clamp force for wide lids and tubs, fast injection for thin walls and room for IML automation. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for ice cream container moulding and can recommend a configuration for your tub, lid and label plan.

Machine Requirements for Ice Cream Container Moulding

Ice cream packs must survive the freezer, carry a clean label and reseal after the tub has been opened. Machine considerations:

  • Impact copolymer PP that stays tough at freezer temperatures
  • Clamp force for the wide, flat lid as well as the tub
  • Opening stroke and daylight for deep tubs with IML robots
  • Label held in place at the gate as melt enters
  • Even cooling so the lid seal holds after freeze and thaw
  • Tamper-evident band moulded into the lid

Recommended Machine for Ice Cream Containers

Ice cream cups, tubs and lids in moderate cavity counts fit the C Series (140-320 T), while deeper family packs and IML moulds with more cavities suit the H Series (120-350 T). Larger tubs or high-cavity tools that need more clamping force than these sizes can be discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to the points ice cream packaging buyers raise most often.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Ice Cream Containers?
Horizontal machines in the C or H Series cover most cup, tub and lid sizes, selected by mould projected area and cavities. Pack sizes that need more clamping force than these series offer are reviewed on request.
  • Why Do Ice Cream Tubs Crack in the Freezer?
Homopolymer PP becomes brittle at low temperature and cracks first at the base corners, where stress concentrates at the change in wall thickness. Impact-modified copolymer PP stays tough in freezer storage and is the usual specification for ice cream packs.
  • Does an IML Ice Cream Container Need a Different Machine Setup?
The machine is standard, but the cell adds a robot that places a label in each cavity before the shot. Mould height, opening stroke and platen space must allow the robot arm, and the label must stay put as melt fills behind it.
  • Why Does the Lid Need as Much Tonnage as the Tub?
A lid weighs little, but its flat face covers almost the same projected area as the tub opening. Clamping force follows projected area and injection pressure, not part weight, so a lid mould can need similar tonnage to the tub mould.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Ice Cream Container?
Yes. Share the tub and lid drawings or samples, material grade, part weights, mould sizes, cavity count, IML plan and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Dairy and Food Packs Too?
Usually, yes. The same series can mould IML tubs, thin-wall containers, sweet boxes and tub lids, depending on the mould footprint and the cavity count.
