Injection Moulding Machine for Disposable Spoons

Disposable spoons are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, from PS, PP or compostable CPLA. Cavity count and the projected area of the full spoon layout decide the machine. Cavity balance matters most, because each spoon has a long, thin flow path and an unbalanced runner leaves short bowl tips.

For cutlery, selection focuses on even fill across many cavities, quick cooling of thin sections and clean ejection of a flexible part. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for disposable spoon production and can recommend a configuration once your market and material are confirmed.

Machine Requirements for Disposable Spoon Moulding

Spoons are small, but a cutlery mould packs many long, thin cavities into one tool. The main requirements:

  • Balanced runner or hot runner so every bowl fills
  • Injection speed for the long handle-to-bowl flow path
  • Ejection that avoids cracking brittle PS at the handle neck
  • Separate process window for CPLA, with drying and warmer mould
  • Projected area of the whole spoon layout within clamp
  • Quick cooling of thin sections for short cycles

Recommended Machine for Disposable Spoons

Spoon moulds are sized by layout rather than spoon weight. Lower-cavity tools can run on the E Series (75-180 T). As cavities increase, the C Series (140-320 T) and the H Series (120-350 T) provide the clamp and shot capacity for larger layouts. CPLA tools may need a longer cycle and a heated mould, which lowers output per machine.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points cutlery moulders check before investing in a spoon mould.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Disposable Spoons?
A horizontal machine sized to the spoon layout. Moulds with fewer cavities often fit the E Series, and high-cavity cutlery tools step up to the C or H Series for clamp and shot capacity.
  • Do Single-Use Plastic Rules Affect Spoon Moulding?
Yes. Single-use plastic rules in India and many export markets restrict plastic cutlery, so check the rules for your market before tooling. CPLA and other compostable routes are the usual substitutes, each with its own process needs.
  • How Does CPLA Differ From PS or PP in Moulding?
CPLA must be dried before moulding and usually needs a heated mould or an annealing step so it crystallises and holds shape in hot food. Cycles run longer than PS or PP, so plan output around that.
  • Why Do Spoon Bowls Come Out Short or Flashed?
Short bowls point to unbalanced filling, slow injection or blocked vents at the bowl tip. Flash on some cavities but not others usually means the layout is near the clamp limit or the parting line is worn.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Disposable Spoon?
Yes. Share the spoon drawing or sample, material, spoon weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and planned output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Disposable Foodware Too?
Yes. Subject to the mould, the same machine class can run disposable cutlery such as forks and stirrers, measuring scoops, plastic tumblers and disposable cups.
