Injection Moulding Machine for Disposable Cutlery
Disposable forks, knives and stirrers are made from PS, PP or CPLA on horizontal injection moulding machines running multi-cavity hot runner moulds. Cavity count and the projected area of a full cutlery set decide the tonnage, and thin tine and blade sections call for fast injection. Short shots at the tine tips are the most common process fault.
For disposable cutlery, machine choice turns on injection speed, shot consistency across the cavities and enough clamp for tools that mould several items together. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for cutlery production and can recommend a configuration for your fork, knife and stirrer set.

Machine Requirements for Disposable Cutlery Moulding
Cutlery is a long, thin part with its thinnest sections at the far end of the flow, so filling and venting decide the reject rate. Check:
- Fast injection to fill fork tines and knife edges
- Venting at tine tips and serrations to avoid burn marks
- Balanced filling when fork, knife and spoon share a mould
- Handle section stiff enough to resist snapping in PS
- Drying and mould heating for CPLA grades
- Hot runner gating at the handle end
Recommended Machine for Disposable Cutlery
Single-item cutlery moulds in lower cavity counts can be handled by the E Series (75-180 T). Family moulds carrying fork, knife and spoon, and high-cavity tools for volume orders, need more clamp force and shot capacity, which the C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T) provide.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions cutlery makers usually ask before ordering moulds and a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Disposable Cutlery?
A horizontal machine matched to the cutlery mould. Smaller single-item tools can run on the E Series, and family or high-cavity moulds that make a full set in each shot usually go on the C or H Series. Why Do Fork Tines Short Shot?
Tines are the thinnest section and the furthest from the gate, so the melt cools before it fills them. Faster injection, correct melt temperature and clear vents at the tine tips help, as do balanced hot runner tips across cavities. Can Forks, Knives and Spoons Be Moulded in One Mould?
Yes, in a family mould, which is common when items are sold as a set. Each part has a different volume, so runner sizing must balance filling. Cutlery and spoons are often quoted as one tool programme.
Do Single-Use Plastic Rules Affect Cutlery Moulding?
They can. Rules in India and several export markets restrict single-use plastic cutlery, so confirm the destination market and permitted materials before committing to tooling. Some makers move to CPLA, which needs drying and a heated mould. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Disposable Cutlery?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each item, material, part weights, mould dimensions, number of cavities, destination market and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Single-Use Food Service Parts Too?
In most cases. The same machines can mould disposable spoons, disposable cups, plastic tumblers and thin-wall containers, as long as the mould suits the platen and clamp.
