Injection Moulding Machine for Disposable Cups

Disposable cups are made on horizontal injection moulding machines with fast injection, in high-cavity hot runner moulds, from PP or PS. Machine size follows the cavity count, the projected area of the rims and the injection pressure a long, thin wall demands. Filling the rim before the thin wall freezes is the main process point.

For disposable cups, selection is about injection speed, shot repeatability across many cavities and a clamp that holds a thin-wall mould without flash. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for cup moulding and can recommend a configuration once the cavity count and cup size are known.

Machine Requirements for Disposable Cup Moulding

Cup moulding is a thin-wall job where cycle time decides the margin and rim quality decides whether the cups stack. Machine points to check:

  • Fast injection to fill thin walls before they freeze
  • High-cavity hot runner mould support with balanced filling
  • Rim bead strength for drinking and lid snap
  • Stacking lugs moulded true so cups denest cleanly
  • Air-assisted ejection for thin cups off long cores
  • Mould cooling capacity matched to a short cycle

Recommended Machine for Disposable Cups

Cup moulds are sized mainly by cavity count. Lower-cavity tools for small cups can suit the E Series (75-180 T), while production moulds with more cavities or larger cups move up to the H Series (120-350 T) or the C Series (140-320 T). Injection speed and cooling should be checked against the target cycle.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What cup makers usually ask before they commit to a mould and machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Disposable Cups?
Cups are moulded on horizontal machines selected by cavity count and cup size. Smaller tools may run on the E Series, while high-cavity moulds for full production volumes usually call for the C or H Series.
  • Should Disposable Cups Be Injection Moulded or Thermoformed?
Both routes are used. Injection moulding gives a stronger, more consistent rim and allows IML decoration, while thermoforming from sheet usually costs less in raw material. Settle the route before tooling, since the mould and machine differ completely.
  • Why Do Thin Cup Walls Short Shot Near the Rim?
The rim sits at the end of a long, thin flow path, so the melt can freeze before it arrives. Higher injection speed, correct melt and mould temperature, clear venting at the rim and balanced hot runner tips usually cure it.
  • Is PP or PS the Better Choice for Disposable Cups?
PP cups flex without cracking and handle hot drinks better, while PS cups are stiffer and clearer but more brittle. The choice changes mould temperature, shrinkage and cup feel, so fix it before the mould is cut.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Disposable Cup?
Yes. Share your cup drawing or sample, material, cup weight, mould dimensions, number of cavities and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Single-Use Packaging Parts Too?
It can. Similar machines handle disposable cutlery, disposable spoons, thin-wall containers and tub lids, with the final choice resting on cavity count and mould size.
