Injection Moulding Machine for CSD Caps

CSD caps, the closures on carbonated soft drink bottles, come off horizontal injection moulding machines running multi-cavity hot runner moulds, usually in bimodal HDPE. Cavity count and the clamping force it needs size the machine. Bore seal geometry matters most, since the seal must hold carbonation pressure for the full shelf life.

For carbonated drink closures, selection focuses on clamp capacity for high-cavity tools, shot-to-shot repeatability and cooling that keeps the bore seal round. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for CSD cap production and can advise whether your tool fits a standard size.

Machine Requirements for CSD Cap Moulding

Carbonated drink closures are judged on the seal, so the machine must hold seal dimensions steady across every cavity. Main considerations:

  • Bore and bump seal held tighter than any cosmetic feature
  • Bimodal HDPE run at a stable melt temperature
  • Tamper-evident ring that releases cleanly from the core
  • Balanced cooling so caps stay round without ovality
  • Clamp capacity matched to high-cavity hot runner moulds
  • Room in the cell for vision inspection after ejection

Recommended Machine for CSD Caps

CSD cap tools often run high cavity counts, so the C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T) cover the tool sizes most buyers bring. Larger tools beyond these ranges are discussed on request. Before tooling, confirm the production route, as some CSD closure lines use compression moulding rather than injection.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What soft drink closure makers usually ask before a machine trial.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make CSD Caps?
A standard horizontal machine with enough clamping force for the cavity set. In Pratishna terms that usually means the C or H Series, with larger tonnages discussed separately when a mould needs more.
  • Why Is Bimodal HDPE Used for CSD Closures?
Bimodal HDPE pairs stiffness for the thread with resistance to stress cracking and creep under carbonation pressure. The grade also sets shrinkage, so mould dimensions are cut for the specific resin.
  • What Causes a CSD Cap to Leak or Lose Carbonation?
Typical causes are an out-of-round bore seal from uneven cooling, flash or a short shot at the seal bead, and resin lot changes that shift shrinkage. These faults are too fine to see by eye, so vision checks are common.
  • Are All CSD Caps Injection Moulded?
No. Some lines use continuous compression moulding instead. Closure design and tooling differ between the two routes, so confirm which one your bottler specifies before ordering a mould or machine.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My CSD Cap?
Yes. Share the closure drawing, neck finish, resin grade, cap weight, mould size, cavity count and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will advise on a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Bottle Closures Too?
Yes. With a suitable mould it can also run water bottle caps, generic screw closures, flip-top caps, and dosing caps for liquid products.
