Injection Moulding Machine for Bottle Caps and Plastic Closures

Bottle caps and plastic screw closures are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity hot runner moulds, from PP, HDPE or LDPE. Cavity count sets the machine size, because total projected area and shot weight grow with every cavity added. Clamp margin matters most: an under-clamped cap mould flashes at the sealing lip on every shot.

For screw closures, machine selection focuses on clamping force for the full cavity set, repeatable injection and cooling that holds thread and seal dimensions. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for bottle cap production and can recommend a configuration for your closure and mould.

Machine Requirements for Bottle Cap and Closure Moulding

A screw closure looks simple, but thread, seal and tamper band all have to come out of every cavity the same way. Points to check:

  • Clamping force sized to the full cavity set with margin
  • Stripping or unscrewing ejection for the internal thread
  • Hot runner zones balanced so every cavity fills alike
  • Even cooling to control ovality and HDPE shrinkage
  • Tamper-evident band bridges that fold without tearing
  • Steady colour masterbatch dosing through long runs

Recommended Machine for Bottle Caps and Closures

A cap weighs little, so the mould decides the machine. Lower-cavity tools for shorter runs often sit in the E Series (75-180 T). Higher-cavity hot runner tools move to the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T), where tie-bar spacing and clamping force can carry the whole mould without opening at the parting line.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions closure makers ask most often before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Bottle Caps?
A horizontal machine, chosen by the mould rather than the cap itself. Small cavity sets can fit the E Series, while larger cap moulds need the C or H Series for clamping force and platen space.
  • Should the Cap Thread Be Stripped or Unscrewed From the Core?
Shallow, rounded threads in PP or HDPE can often be stripped off the core, which keeps the mould simpler. Deeper or sharper threads usually need an unscrewing mould with its own rotary drive.
  • PP or HDPE: Which Material Suits a Screw Closure?
PP gives a stiffer cap and holds snap features well. HDPE is softer and can form a linerless seal on many necks. LDPE is more common in liners and plug seals than in the cap shell.
  • Why Do Caps Flash at the Sealing Lip?
Flash at the lip usually comes from too little clamp margin for the cavity count, a worn parting line, or excess injection pressure. Because the lip is the seal, even light flash can lead to leaks.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Bottle Cap?
Yes. Share the closure drawing or sample, neck finish, material, cap weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other FMCG Packaging Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould flip-top caps, measuring scoops and dosing caps, tub lids, and spouts or pourers, depending on the mould and cavity count.
