Injection Moulding Machine for Rotameter Bodies
Panel rotameter bodies, scale blocks and end fittings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PMMA, SAN or PC for clear parts and PP for fittings. Shot weight of the thick clear body and the mould length set machine size. Low residual stress matters most, because crazing or birefringence in the body makes the scale hard to read.
Clear meter bodies follow lens moulding practice, so machine selection focuses on steady injection speed, gentle packing and close temperature control. Pratishna Engineers offers hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines suited to rotameter parts and can recommend a configuration for your meter body and fittings.
Moulding Rotameter Bodies?
Share your meter body drawing, resin and volumes, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine for clear, low-stress parts.
Machine Requirements for Rotameter Moulding
A rotameter body is read through its wall, so clarity and low stress decide the machine settings. Points to check:
- Thorough drying of PMMA and PC before moulding
- Slow, controlled packing to keep residual stress low
- Polished cavity and core for a clear, readable bore
- Steady barrel temperatures to avoid yellowing and burn marks
- Shot capacity for thick clear sections without voids
- Accurate taper and thread on moulded meter bodies
Recommended Machine for Rotameters
Small panel meter bodies, scale blocks and end fittings fit the Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T), where electric injection gives even, repeatable fill for clear parts, and the E Series (75-180 T). Longer meter bodies, thick sections or multi-cavity fitting tools are better placed on the C Series (140-320 T), with the H Series (120-350 T) for the largest tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions flow meter makers ask about moulding clear meter parts.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Rotameters?
The moulded parts of small panel meters run on Hybrid PH or E Series machines. Longer bodies or tools with several cavities may need the C or H Series, based on mould size and shot weight. Is the Rotameter Tapered Tube Injection Moulded?
Precision-bore tapered metering tubes are machined or drawn from acrylic or glass, and floats are machined metal or glass. Moulding covers panel bodies, scale blocks, end fittings, guards and small meters where the taper is moulded in.Why Does a Clear Rotameter Body Show Rainbow Patterns?
Rainbow patterns are birefringence from moulded-in stress. Slow packing, correct mould temperature, an adequate gate size and annealing where needed reduce that stress in PMMA and PC bodies and keep the scale readable.
Why Do Acrylic Meter Bodies Crack at the Fittings?
Acrylic is attacked by many solvents and some thread sealants, and cracks start where moulded-in stress meets the chemical. Check sealant compatibility with the resin supplier and keep stress low around threaded ends. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Rotameter?
Yes. Share the meter body and fitting drawings, material, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and production volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Water Treatment Instrument Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould dosing pump heads, softener control valve parts, vacuum breakers and clear filter bowls, depending on material and mould size.
