Injection Moulding Machine for Filter Housings

Filter housing bowls, caps and brackets are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, using PP, glass-filled PP, SAN or PC. Bowl length sets mould height and opening stroke, while the thick wall drives shot weight and cooling time. Packing decides the result, because sink at the thread or O-ring groove causes leaks.

For filter housings, machine selection weighs shot size and cooling for the thick bowl wall against clamp size and stroke for the deep mould. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for filter housing production and can recommend a configuration for your bowl, cap and bracket moulds.

Machine Requirements for Filter Housing Moulding

Filter housings carry line pressure all the time, and their thick walls bring their own moulding problems. Points to check:

  • Shot weight and screw size for thick bowl walls
  • Opening stroke for deep bowls on longer cartridges
  • Packing and holding pressure to control sink marks
  • Accurate thread form, wrench flats and O-ring groove
  • Polished cavity and dried resin for clear SAN or PC bowls
  • Mould cooling sized for long thick-section cooling time

Recommended Machine for Filter Housings

Caps and wall brackets for smaller housings can run on the upper end of the E Series (75-180 T). Bowls carry the larger shot and the deeper mould, so bowl tools generally fit the C Series (140-320 T), while longer bowls or multi-cavity cap tools may need the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What filter housing makers ask before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Filter Housings?
Horizontal machines in the mid to upper tonnage band. The C Series suits many bowl moulds, the H Series takes longer bowls, and the E Series can run caps and brackets.
  • Why Do Clear Filter Bowls Crack or Craze?
SAN and PC are sensitive to chlorine, ozone and some O-ring lubricants. Residual moulding stress makes it worse, so the resin, the assembly grease and the gate design should be chosen together, and clear bowls tested with the grease actually used.
  • How Is Sink Controlled on Thick Filter Bowl Walls?
Through enough holding pressure and hold time, a gate large enough to pack the section and sufficient cooling. Coring out thick zones in the mould design helps more than a longer cycle on the machine.
  • How Are Filter Housings Tested Before Approval?
Bowls are burst tested and pressure-cycle tested at a multiple of working pressure, as the applicable standard or buyer sets. Voids, weld lines and sink at the thread are the usual failure points.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Filter Housing?
Yes. Share the bowl, cap and bracket drawings, cartridge size range, material, part weights, mould dimensions and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Filtration Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can produce RO membrane housings, pressure vessel end caps, cartridge end caps and softener valve parts, depending on the mould and shot weight.
