Injection Moulding Machine for Thread and Texturising Spools

Thread, sewing and texturising spools are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity tools, from PS, PP, ABS or PC. Flange diameter sets projected area, and cavity count sets shot weight. Gating at the hub lets the melt reach both flanges evenly, which keeps them flat and the spool running true.

With spools, machine selection weighs flange area across the cavities, shot consistency between cavities and fine holding pressure control for the hub bore. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for spool production and can recommend a configuration for your spool and output.

Moulding Thread Spools?

Share the spool size, material, one-piece or two-piece design and quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.

Machine Requirements for Spool Moulding

A spool has to sit true on the spindle and let thread unwind cleanly, which puts these needs on the process:

  • Hub bore held to fit the spindle or holder
  • Flat flanges that run concentric with the hub
  • Smooth inner flange faces so thread does not catch
  • Matched shrinkage between halves of snap-together spools
  • Polished tool and clean material for clear spools
  • Print or label panel moulded flat on the flange

Recommended Machine for Spools

Small sewing thread spools run in high-cavity moulds, and most of these sit comfortably on the E Series (75-180 T). Large texturising spools and wide-flange designs raise projected area, so those tools move to the C Series (140-320 T) or the H Series (120-350 T) according to flange size and cavity count.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions thread makers and spool moulders raise when choosing tools and machines.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Spools?
Sewing thread spools in many-cavity tools usually suit the E Series. Texturising spools and wide flanges need more clamping force for their projected area, so the C or H Series fits them better.
  • Should a Spool Be One Piece or Snap-Together?
One-piece spools need split cavity slides to release the gap between the flanges, which makes the mould larger. Two-piece spools mould in plain open-and-shut tools, but the halves must shrink alike, so they share material lot and settings.
  • How Is a Clear Spool Kept Free of Haze and Marks?
A polished cavity, clean hopper and no mixed regrind keep clear PS bright. PC spools also need drying, or moisture leaves silver streaks. Ejector pins sit on the hub, away from the visible flange face.
  • Why Do Spool Flanges Warp?
Thin flanges warp when one side cools faster than the other or when filling is uneven from an off-centre gate. Balanced cooling on both mould halves and a hub gate keep the flanges square to the bore.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Spool?
Yes. Share the spool drawing or sample, material, part weight, number of cavities, mould dimensions and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Thread and Yarn Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines produce sewing machine bobbins, spinning bobbins, textile cones and fabric roll end caps, subject to the mould.
