Injection Moulding Machine for Glue Stick Barrels and Screw Mechanisms

Glue stick barrels and screw mechanisms are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity moulds, from PP or PS for barrel and cap and POM for the screw and carrier. Cavity count and small shot weights set machine size. Shrinkage control on the thread and carrier matters most, as the carrier must still wind freely after warm adhesive fill.

Selection for glue stick parts centres on repeatable small shots across many cavities and stable shrinkage on the POM thread parts. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and hybrid injection moulding machines for these mouldings and can recommend a configuration for each part in the set.

Machine Requirements for Glue Stick Barrel and Screw Moulding

A glue stick is a set of mating mouldings, and the twist action depends on how well they fit. The main machine points are:

  • Repeatable small shots across multi-cavity moulds
  • Tight shrinkage control on POM screw and carrier threads
  • Barrel bore held to size for a smooth carrier stroke
  • Virgin material in the screw and carrier, no regrind
  • Clean filling of thin barrel walls without short shots
  • Tooling plan for barrel, cap, screw, carrier and base

Recommended Machine for Glue Stick Barrels and Screw Mechanisms

Each glue stick part is small, so cavity count drives machine size more than part size. The Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) suits multi-cavity screw and barrel moulds where injection repeatability matters. Many cap, carrier and base tools fit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger barrel moulds with more cavities go to the C Series (140-320 T), with the H Series (120-350 T) as an alternative at similar tonnage.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What glue stick makers usually ask before they buy a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Glue Stick Barrels and Screw Mechanisms?
For multi-cavity glue stick tools, the Hybrid PH Series or E Series is a common starting point. Barrel moulds with high cavity counts are sized up into the C or H Series by their projected area.
  • Why Is POM Used for the Glue Stick Screw and Carrier?
POM gives a low-friction, wear-resistant thread that keeps its shape. The carrier has to travel up and down through sticky adhesive, so a stable, slippery material keeps the twist light.
  • Why Does a Glue Stick Become Stiff to Twist?
Usually the screw, carrier or barrel bore is out of size. Uneven cooling, a changed holding pressure or regrind in the POM parts shifts shrinkage, and the carrier then binds once adhesive is filled.
  • Can Regrind Be Used in Glue Stick Parts?
Barrels, caps and bases can often take controlled regrind. Screw and carrier parts are better moulded from virgin POM, because regrind varies shrinkage and a stiff mechanism comes straight back as a return.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Glue Stick?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each part, the materials, cavity counts, mould sizes and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest machines for the set.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Stationery Parts Too?
Yes. These machines can also run pen caps, pen refill parts, marker bodies and badge reel housings, depending on the tool.
