Injection Moulding Machine for File and Folder Clips

File and folder clips are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, from PP copolymer for living-hinge clips and POM or PA6 for stiffer spring parts. Cavity count and clip size set the machine. On living-hinge designs the hinge decides the part: it must be gated so flow crosses it and flexed straight after ejection.

Machine selection for file clips depends on whether the spring is a moulded hinge or an assembled steel spring, since the two are different parts and quotes. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for file clip production and can recommend a configuration for your clip and mould.

Machine Requirements for File and Folder Clip Moulding

Only the clip and its mechanism are mouldings, since folder bodies are cut from sheet or board. Points to check when selecting a machine:

  • Living hinge gated so melt crosses it in one direction
  • No weld line at the hinge or spring arm
  • Hinge flexed right after ejection while still warm
  • POM spring arms with stable shrinkage and stiffness
  • Dried PA6 for clips that must not turn brittle
  • Prongs that pass cleanly through punched paper holes

Recommended Machine for File and Folder Clips

File clips are small, so tonnage follows the number of cavities and the mould frame. The E Series (75-180 T) suits many clip and fastener moulds. Longer clip bars, high-cavity tools or family moulds for the clip and its mechanism may need the H Series (120-350 T) or the C Series (140-320 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What file and folder clip buyers ask most often.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make File Clips?
Horizontal machines matched to the clip mould. Small clip and fastener tools often run in the E Series, and longer clip bars or tools with many cavities may move to the C or H Series.
  • Should the Clip Use a Living Hinge or a Steel Spring?
A living hinge in PP copolymer gives a one-piece part with no assembly. A steel spring clip needs a moulded body plus spring fitting, so the two are quoted differently. Hinge life depends on gating and grade.
  • How Is a Living Hinge Moulded So It Does Not Crack?
Gate so the melt crosses the hinge in one direction, with no weld line there, and keep the hinge section even. Flexing the hinge straight after ejection, while it is still warm, sets the orientation that gives long hinge life.
  • Which Parts of a File or Folder Are Moulded?
Only the clip and its mechanism. Folder bodies, box files and display book spines are die-cut or fabricated from extruded PP sheet or board, and lever-arch mechanisms are steel.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My File Clip?
Yes. Share the clip drawing or sample, spring type, material, part weight, mould size, number of cavities and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Stationery Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould clipboard and display book fittings, ID card holder frames, badge reel clips and sharpener bodies, subject to mould size.
