Injection Moulding Machine for Protective Pads and Inserts

Protective padding parts such as TPU or TPE lattice pads, impact inserts and PP carriers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with two-shot machines for soft-on-hard pads. Pad area, cavity count and the long flow through thin cells set machine size. Filling every cell matters most: fast injection and venting at each cell prevent short shots and burn marks.

Padding buyers should first confirm which layer is being quoted, since foam layers are a different process. For two-shot pads, Pratishna Engineers builds a special purpose machine to application. It also supplies horizontal machines for single-material lattice pads and carriers, and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Protective Padding Moulding

Moulded padding is thin-wall, long-flow work in soft grades, often bonded to a rigid carrier. The machine and mould should allow:

  • Fast injection to fill thin lattice walls before freezing
  • Venting at every cell to stop trapped air
  • Dried TPU, since moisture causes bubbles and weak cells
  • Soft-part ejection without tearing thin lattice ribs
  • Bond between soft pad and PP carrier in two-shot
  • Compound supplier settings for rate-sensitive elastomer inserts

Recommended Machine for Protective Padding

Two-shot pads, with a soft lattice moulded onto a rigid carrier, call for a machine built to application, and Pratishna Engineers builds such special purpose machines. Single-material lattice pads, inserts and small carriers suit the E Series (75-180 T), and back protectors or larger carriers run on the H Series (120-350 T), with the C Series (140-320 T) as an alternative.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions makers of moulded pads and inserts ask most.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Protective Padding?
That depends on the layer. Two-shot soft-on-hard pads need a special purpose machine. Single-material lattice pads and small inserts fit the E Series, and larger carriers or back protector pads move to the H or C Series.
  • Is Foam Padding Made on an Injection Moulding Machine?
No. EVA, PU and moulded bead foams use foam processes. Injection moulding covers TPU and TPE lattice or honeycomb pads, elastomer impact inserts and the rigid carrier or shell that foam is bonded to.
  • Why Do Lattice Pads Show Short Shots and Burn Marks?
Thin cell walls freeze quickly, and air trapped at the end of each cell compresses and burns. Faster injection, vents at every cell end and a correct mould temperature fill the lattice fully.
  • Are Rate-sensitive Impact Inserts Easy to Mould?
These are proprietary elastomer compounds with narrow processing windows. Follow the compound supplier’s drying and temperature settings, and run trial lots before release, since the impact test is done on the finished pad.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Protective Padding?
Yes. Share the pad drawing or sample, the layers to be moulded, materials, part weight, mould size and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Body Protection Parts Too?
Yes, depending on the mould. Related parts include shin guard shells, knee and elbow guard shells, helmet vent hardware and sport goggle frames.
