Injection Moulding Machine for Helmet Vents, Visor Pivots and Retention Hardware

Helmet vent sliders, visor pivots and retention hardware such as chin-strap buckles and adjusters are made on small horizontal injection moulding machines from POM, PA6-GF, ABS, PC or TPE. Part size and cavity count set tonnage. Fit matters most: sliders that jam, pivots with play and buckles that creep are the first complaints riders raise.

Selection for helmet hardware looks at shot accuracy for small precise parts and stable process settings, because retention parts are tested with the helmet. Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines for helmet hardware and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Helmet Hardware Moulding

These parts are small, but their fit and load behaviour decide how the helmet works in use. The moulding setup needs:

  • Accurate small shots for multi-cavity POM slider tools
  • Consistent POM shrinkage on ratchet teeth and detents
  • Dried glass-filled nylon for load-bearing visor pivots
  • Weld lines kept off pivot bosses and buckle prongs
  • Flash-free sliding faces so vents move without sticking
  • Fixed material and regrind rules for tested retention parts

Recommended Machine for Helmet Hardware

Helmet hardware is small, and the Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) suits precise multi-cavity POM and nylon tools, with electric injection for repeatable shots. An E Series (75-180 T) machine covers the same parts, while larger family moulds can go to the H Series (120-350 T) or, depending on platen size, the C Series (140-320 T). Single-cavity tools for tiny parts are checked case by case.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions helmet makers ask about moulding vents, pivots and buckles.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Helmet Vents and Pivots?
Small machines handle these parts. The Hybrid PH Series suits precise POM and nylon tools, the E Series covers the same range, and larger family moulds can move to the H or C Series.
  • Which Material Suits Helmet Vent Sliders and Ratchets?
POM is common for sliding and ratcheting parts because of its low friction and wear. Glass-filled nylon is used where the pivot carries visor load, and TPE for soft covers or grip pads.
  • Can Retention Parts Be Changed Without Retesting the Helmet?
No. Chin-strap buckles and retention components sit in the tested load path, so a change of material, grade or regrind ratio needs retesting with the helmet. Lock these settings in the process sheet.
  • Why Do Chin-strap Buckles Creep or Slip?
Creep comes from sustained load on a material or section too weak for it. Correct material choice, adequate wall at the prong root, gates away from load points and dried nylon all reduce creep and slip.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Helmet Hardware?
Yes. Share the part drawings or samples, materials, part weights, cavity counts, mould sizes and monthly volumes, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Helmet and Sports Hardware Too?
Yes, depending on the tool. Boot and binding buckles, knee and elbow guard strap hardware, sport goggle parts and water bottle caps can run on these machines.
