Injection Moulding Machine for Waste Couplings, Bottle Traps and P-Traps

Waste couplings, bottle traps and P-traps are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP, ABS or uPVC, using moulds with core pulls. The curved water path, the mould size it creates and the thick wall at the trap bend decide the machine. Cooling that bend wall sets the cycle more than injection does.

For drainage traps, machine selection looks at mould size with its arc cores or unscrewing units, the opening stroke and the core-pull sequence. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for waste trap production and can recommend a configuration for each fitting.

Machine Requirements for Waste Coupling and Trap Moulding

Trap moulds carry curved cores and threads, so the press must handle more than a plain two-plate tool:

  • Hydraulic core-pull circuits for arc or split cores
  • Unscrewing drive for slip-joint nut and body threads
  • Mould cooling close to the thick trap bend wall
  • Opening stroke for long cores and deep trap bodies
  • PVC-suited screw and barrel when moulding uPVC traps
  • Holding pressure control to limit sink on the bend

Recommended Machine for Waste Couplings and Traps

Basin waste couplings and slip-joint nuts usually fit the E Series (75-180 T). Bottle trap bodies and P-trap bends with arc cores need more platen space and stroke, which points to the C Series (140-320 T). Multi-cavity coupling moulds and larger trap bodies go to the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What trap and waste fitting makers ask before buying a press.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Bottle Traps and P-Traps?
A horizontal press with core-pull circuits, from the E Series for couplings and nuts up to the C or H Series for trap bodies. Mould width, core stroke and shot weight decide the step between them.
  • How Is the Curved Water Path Moulded?
A curved bore cannot be pulled straight, so the mould uses an arc core that swings out on a rack or cylinder, or a split core that withdraws in two directions. Core-pull sequencing on the press must match the mould.
  • Why Is the Trap Bend the Slowest Part of the Cycle?
Trap bends usually carry the thickest wall, and thick plastic cools slowly. Cooling channels near the bend, a gate close to the thick section and enough holding pressure keep sink down without stretching the cycle.
  • Do Slip-Joint Threads Need an Unscrewing Mould?
Full, round threads on nuts and trap bodies are usually released by an unscrewing core turned by a hydraulic motor or rack. Collapsible cores or stripping can suit some shallow threads, depending on material and thread form.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Waste Coupling or Trap?
Yes. Share part drawings or samples, material, part weights, mould dimensions, core and unscrewing layout, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drainage Fittings Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould floor drains, nahani traps, SWR drainage fittings and cistern flush valves, subject to the mould.
