Injection Moulding Machine for Rail Insulator Pads, Resilient Pads and Height-adjustment Pads

Rail insulator pads, resilient pads and height-adjustment pads in HDPE, EVA, TPEE or glass-filled PA66 are made on horizontal injection moulding machines. Pad footprint, cavity count and any steel plate insert decide machine size. The grooved surface must fill fully, since grooves shape the pad stiffness that the railway checks.

For rail pads, machine selection looks at clamping force for a flat pad area, shot consistency so stiffness holds from batch to batch, and platen space to load plate inserts. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for thermoplastic rail pads and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Rail Insulator Pad Moulding

A rail pad is sold on its load-deflection behaviour rather than its dimensions alone. Moulding has to hold that behaviour steady. Considerations:

  • Full groove fill on the loaded upper face
  • Consistent shot weight for repeatable pad stiffness
  • Even cooling so wide pads stay flat
  • Insert location for pads with a steel plate
  • Drying of TPEE and PA66 before moulding
  • Shrinkage control on thick HDPE and EVA pads

Recommended Machine for Rail Insulator Pads

Most thermoplastic pads run on the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T), sized by the pad area times the cavities. Smaller height-adjustment pads in fewer cavities can fit the E Series (75-180 T). Bigger pads, multi-cavity tools for heavy rail sections and anything needing more clamp are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions rail pad manufacturers ask most when they move into injection moulding.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Rail Insulator Pads?
C and H Series machines cover most HDPE, EVA and TPEE pad tools, with the E Series for small shims. Larger pads or high cavity counts beyond this range are handled on request.
  • Can Rubber or EPDM Rail Pads Be Injection Moulded?
Not on these machines. Rubber and EPDM pads are compounded and vulcanised in a compression press. Thermoplastic pads in HDPE, EVA or TPEE are the injection moulded type.
  • Why Does Pad Stiffness Vary From Batch to Batch?
Stiffness depends on groove depth and material density. Short-filled grooves, changes in shot weight or a new resin lot can all shift it, so stiffness is tested on each batch.
  • How Are Steel Plate Inserts Handled in Rail Pads?
Some designs carry a steel plate for lateral rigidity. The plate is placed in the mould before injection and must sit in a fixed location, so the tool needs positive insert location and the press needs room for loading.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Rail Insulator Pad?
Yes. Share the pad drawing or sample, material, stiffness requirement, any insert, part weight, mould size, cavities and quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Railway Track Parts Too?
Yes. Machines in this range can mould rail clip insulators and guide plates, insulated rail joint end posts and plastic sleeper dowels, depending on the mould.
