Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Dowels and Sleeves for Concrete Sleepers

Plastic dowels and sleeves for concrete sleepers are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, mostly from PA6 or PA66, with HDPE in some designs. Cavity count and the heavy shot of a thick-walled part set the machine size. Cooling time in the thick section usually limits the cycle.

Dowels are a high-volume commodity, so machine selection focuses on shot capacity for multi-cavity tools, packing control for thick walls and a stable cycle. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for sleeper dowels and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Concrete Sleeper Dowel Moulding

The dowel is cast into the sleeper and must hold the screw spike for years. Moulding has to deliver a sound, void-free wall. Points to cover:

  • Shot capacity for thick walls across several cavities
  • Holding pressure to stop voids and sink
  • Cooling channels sized for a thick section
  • Drying of PA6 and PA66 before moulding
  • Unscrewing core where the bore carries a moulded thread
  • Pull-out and thread-forming tests on moulded dowels

Recommended Machine for Concrete Sleeper Dowels

Each dowel is small, so the E Series (75-180 T) runs most single and multi-cavity dowel tools. Higher cavity counts, larger sleeves or moulds with unscrewing cores need more shot weight and mould height, which brings in the H Series (120-350 T) and C Series (140-320 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions sleeper plant suppliers ask before moulding dowels.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Concrete Sleeper Dowels?
Usually an E Series machine for standard dowel tools. Larger sleeves, high cavity counts or unscrewing mechanisms move the job to the H or C Series.
  • Should Sleeper Dowels Be Made in Nylon or HDPE?
PA6 and PA66 give the strength the screw spike needs for thread forming and pull-out. HDPE appears in some designs, and the buyer specification decides which is accepted.
  • Why Is the Dowel Cycle Long for Such a Small Part?
The wall is thick, so the part needs time to cool before ejection without distorting. Good cooling channels in the core and cavity cut this time more than faster injection does.
  • What Causes Voids Inside Moulded Dowels?
Thick sections shrink as they cool, and without enough holding pressure the core pulls away into a void. Gate size, hold time and wet nylon all affect it, and voids weaken pull-out strength.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Sleeper Dowel?
Yes. Share the dowel drawing or sample, material, part weight, mould size, cavities, core type and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Railway Track Parts Too?
Yes. It can also mould rail clip insulators and liners, insulated rail joint bushes and ferrules, and cable cleats, subject to each mould.
