Injection Moulding Machine for Grab Handles, Handrail Brackets and Stanchion End Caps

Coach grab handles, handrail brackets and stanchion end caps are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, mostly in glass-filled FR PA6 or PA66, with FR PC or FR PP for lighter caps. Shot weight, mould size and metal fixing inserts decide the machine. Fibre orientation and weld lines at load points matter most.

Handles and brackets carry passenger load, so machine selection looks at shot capacity for thick sections, a screw and barrel that resist glass fibre wear, and room for insert loading. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for these parts and can recommend a setup.

Machine Requirements for Grab Handle and Handrail Bracket Moulding

These are structural parts held by passengers, and the mould and process have to protect strength at the fixing points. Main considerations:

  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for glass-filled FR nylon
  • Thorough drying of PA6 and PA66 before moulding
  • Weld lines kept away from fixing holes and bosses
  • Metal fixing inserts moulded in or assembled after
  • Packing pressure to avoid voids in thick grip sections
  • Load and drop tests on moulded parts

Recommended Machine for Grab Handles and Handrail Brackets

End caps and small brackets often run in multi-cavity moulds on the E Series (75-180 T). Full grab handles, long brackets and tools with metal inserts need more shot capacity and platen space, which points to a C Series (140-320 T) or an H Series (120-350 T) machine. The screw and barrel should be specified for glass fibre.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What rolling stock suppliers usually want to know before moulding handles and brackets.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Grab Handles and Handrail Brackets?
Horizontal machines across the E, C and H Series. Cap size and cavity count keep end caps at the lower end, while long handles and insert tools need larger platens and more shot weight.
  • Why Is Glass-filled FR Nylon Used Instead of Unfilled Grades?
Grab handles and brackets take passenger load in service. Glass fibre adds the stiffness and strength that unfilled FR grades lack, while still meeting the coach fire classification.
  • How Are Metal Fixing Inserts Added to Handles and Brackets?
Threaded or sleeve inserts are either placed in the mould before injection or pressed in after moulding. Moulded-in inserts are preheated and need a tool and cycle that allow safe loading by hand or robot.
  • Does the Flame Retardant Affect Handle Strength?
It can. FR packages lower impact strength, so the drop and load tests are run on moulded handles from production tools rather than relying on the datasheet.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Grab Handle?
Yes. Share the drawing or sample, FR grade and glass content, insert type, part weight, mould size, cavities and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Railway Fittings Too?
Yes. It can also mould tray table brackets, coach trim and bezels, toilet module hooks and electrical housings, depending on the mould and material.
