Injection Moulding Machine for Litter Trays
Litter trays are made on large horizontal injection moulding machines, mostly from PP copolymer or HDPE, sometimes with recycled PP. The flat footprint, not the light part weight, sets the clamping force, and mould height grows with rim depth. Warpage control matters most: a tray that bows as it cools will rock on the floor.
Machine selection for litter trays follows projected area, mould size and the opening stroke needed for high-rim versions. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and two-platen injection moulding machines for litter tray production and can recommend a configuration for your tray size and mould.

Machine Requirements for Litter Tray Moulding
A litter tray is a big, shallow part that has to stay flat and clean easily, so selection looks at:
- Clamping force sized to the full flat projected area
- Platen space and mould height for wide tray tools
- Balanced cooling across the base to prevent warpage
- Smooth surfaces and generous corner radii for easy cleaning
- Resistance to urine, ammonia and cleaning agents over years
- Stable melt when running recycled PP blends
Recommended Machine for Litter Trays
Smaller cat trays fit the H Series (120-350 T), and the Two-Platen PHM Series (160-350 T) gives the platen space wide tray moulds need. C Series (140-320 T) machines suit compact trays. Large and high-rim trays can need more clamping force than these ranges give, and Pratishna Engineers discusses those sizes on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
What tray makers usually want to know before sizing a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Litter Trays?
Tonnage depends on the tray footprint. Small trays sit in the H or PHM Series, compact ones can run on the C Series, and the largest trays need more clamping force than these series give, so they are reviewed on request. Why Does a Litter Tray Warp?
A thin, wide base cools unevenly, especially near the gate and at thick corners, and PP shrinks differently along and across the flow. Balanced cooling channels, even walls, ribs under the base and enough cooling time keep the tray flat. Can Recycled PP Be Used for Litter Trays?
Yes, recycled PP is often used for trays. Melt flow and colour vary between lots, so check each lot, set a blend ratio with virgin PP and expect to adjust process settings. Odour and contamination are worth testing too.
Are High-Rim and Hooded Trays Made in the Same Mould?
No. High-rim and hooded versions are separate tools. A higher rim adds part depth, so the machine needs more opening stroke and mould height, and the hood is moulded as its own part. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Litter Tray?
Yes. Share the tray drawing, length, width and rim height, material and any recycled content, mould dimensions and monthly volume. Pratishna Engineers will check clamping force and platen size before suggesting a machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Pet Care Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould litter box hoods, large dog bowls, feeder bases and carrier door frames, subject to the mould size of each part.
