Injection Moulding Machine for Spectacle Frames

Spectacle frames in TR90-type polyamide, PA12 or PC are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with fronts and temples often in separate moulds. Machine size depends on front width, cavity count and runner length. Cooling is the process point to watch: it sets crystallinity in TR90, which decides the flexibility and shape memory of the frame.

Selection for frames centres on fill control for thin temple sections, accurate mould temperature and gentle ejection of a flexible part. Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines suited to frame production and can recommend a configuration for your frame design and volume.

Machine Requirements for Spectacle Frame Moulding

Frames are judged on fit, flex and colour as much as on looks. Machine and mould points to confirm:

  • Steady flow so thin temples fill without hesitation marks
  • Controlled cooling to keep TR90 flexibility and shape memory
  • Ejection layout that does not bend soft temples
  • Front flatness and warp held across long runs
  • Lens groove dimensions repeatable from cavity to cavity
  • Colour matched between lots with consistent masterbatch dosing

Recommended Machine for Spectacle Frames

Frame fronts and temples are small parts, but long runners and family layouts add to the shot. Most frame moulds fit the E Series (75-180 T), with the Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) where electric injection helps thin temples fill evenly. Larger family tools and multi-cavity temple moulds are placed on the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What frame makers and eyewear brands ask before they buy a moulding machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Spectacle Frames?
A horizontal machine in the lower tonnage band covers most frame tools. Pratishna Engineers usually proposes the Hybrid PH or E Series, and the C or H Series for multi-cavity temple moulds.
  • Can Acetate Frames Be Injection Moulded?
No. Acetate frames are cut from layered sheet and finished by hand, so an acetate design is not a moulding job. TR90, PA12 and PC frames are injection moulded, which is where their cost advantage comes from.
  • Does TR90 Need Drying Before Moulding?
Yes. TR90 and other polyamides take up moisture, which causes splay, brittle temples and size drift. Dry the granules to the supplier’s conditions and feed the dried material straight to the hopper.
  • Why Do Frame Fronts Warp After Moulding?
Front warp usually comes from uneven cooling between the bridge and the rims, or from a gate that packs one side harder. Balanced cooling, gate position and enough cooling time before ejection keep the front flat for lens fitting.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Spectacle Frame?
Yes. Share the front and temple drawings or samples, material grade, colours, cavity layout, mould size and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Eyewear Parts Too?
Yes, within the mould limits. Related eyewear parts include temple tips, nose pads and hinge covers, spectacle cases, and sunglass and safety lenses.
