Injection Moulding Machine for Ink Cartridge Housings

Ink cartridge housings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity moulds, from modified PPO, PP, PE or POM chosen for ink resistance. Cavity count, shot weight and fine ink channels decide the machine. Steady injection matters most, because the narrow channels and sealing faces must fill fully without flash.

For ink housings, selection starts with the resin, which is picked for compatibility with the ink before anything else, and then with injection control fine enough for small channels. Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines for ink cartridge housings and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Ink Cartridge Housing Moulding

An ink housing has to hold solvent-based ink without leaking or swelling over its shelf life, and that drives the moulding set-up:

  • Resin matched to ketone, acetate or alcohol based inks
  • Fine injection control to fill narrow ink channels
  • Venting at channel ends against short shots and burns
  • Flash-free sealing faces around the ink outlet
  • Drying of modified PPO and nylon before moulding
  • Second-material standpipe joints planned with the mould

Recommended Machine for Ink Cartridge Housings

Ink housings are small to mid-size parts, so tonnage follows cavity count and mould plate size. The Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) gives electric injection for repeatable filling of fine channels. Many housing moulds run on the E Series (75-180 T), with the H Series (120-350 T) for high-cavity tools and the C Series (140-320 T) for larger housings.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from ink cartridge makers about resin, joints and machine size.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Ink Cartridge Housings?
Small and mid-size horizontal machines. The Hybrid PH Series suits housings that need very repeatable injection, the E Series runs many standard housing moulds, and the C and H Series take high-cavity or larger tools.
  • Which Plastics Are Used for Ink Cartridge Housings?
Modified PPO, PP, PE, POM and nylon are common, chosen because they tolerate ketone, acetate and alcohol based inks. Heat-resistant grades such as PPS are used where a printhead is soldered onto the body.
  • How Are Leak-Resistant Standpipe Joints Moulded?
Some designs mould a second material around the standpipe so it shrinks tight onto the frame. That two-material version is planned separately with Pratishna Engineers on enquiry, while single-material housings run on the series listed.
  • How Does Moulding Affect Ink Shelf Life?
Housings are tested for solvent barrier over storage, so resin lot, moisture and moulded-in stress all count. Dry hygroscopic grades fully and keep holding pressure steady to avoid stress near the outlet, where cracks start.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Ink Cartridge Housing?
Yes. Share the housing drawing or sample, ink type, resin grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Ink System Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould ink tanks, refill bottle caps and valves, cartridge gears, pen barrels and printer internal parts, each sized to its own mould.
