Injection Moulding Machine for Veterinary Syringes

Veterinary syringes are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with barrel, plunger and dose mechanism in separate moulds, from PC or PP for barrels and POM for ratchet parts. Barrel length and wall set shot weight and opening stroke, while cavity count sets clamp force. The ratchet that sets each repeat dose needs the closest shrinkage control.

Vet syringes run in lower volumes than human disposables and are often reused, so the mould set and material route outweigh raw output. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal machines for these parts and can recommend a configuration for each tool in the set.

Machine Requirements for Veterinary Syringe Moulding

A veterinary syringe is an assembly of several mouldings plus metal parts, each with its own demands. Selection usually covers:

  • Dried PC for clear, autoclavable reusable barrels
  • Thicker barrel walls packed out without sink or voids
  • Long barrel cores held straight for even wall
  • Stable POM shrinkage for ratchet and dose teeth
  • Sharp graduation marks on the barrel face
  • Separate TPE gasket tool sized to the bore

Recommended Machine for Veterinary Syringes

Single barrels, plungers and dose parts are small to medium mouldings that suit the E Series (75-180 T). Long barrels in multi-cavity tools, or family moulds holding several mechanism parts, can need an H Series (120-350 T) machine, or a C Series (140-320 T) where the wider platen helps, for clamp force, mould height and stroke.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions animal health product makers ask about moulding syringe parts.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Veterinary Syringes?
Most barrel, plunger and mechanism tools fit a horizontal E Series machine. Long barrels, higher cavity counts or several parts sharing one family mould call for the C or H Series.
  • Which Material Suits Reusable Veterinary Syringe Barrels?
PC is used for clear barrels that are washed and autoclaved, with PSU where higher heat resistance is needed. PP suits single-use barrels. PC and PSU both need thorough drying and a warm mould to limit moulded-in stress.
  • How Is the Repeat-dose Ratchet Moulded Accurately?
The ratchet is usually POM, which shrinks noticeably and varies with mould temperature and holding time. A stable mould temperature, steady holding pressure and gating that fills the teeth evenly keep each click and dose consistent.
  • Are Needles, Springs and Adjusters Moulded In?
Usually not. Metal needles, springs and dose adjusters are assembled after moulding. The moulded parts carry the seats, threads and snap features that hold them, so those features are checked on trial parts before the mould is approved.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Veterinary Syringe?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of the barrel, plunger and mechanism parts, materials, part weights, cavities, mould dimensions and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend suitable machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Syringe and Injector Parts Too?
Yes. This machine class can also produce syringe barrels, syringe plungers, autoinjector and pen injector components and needle hubs, though hubs insert moulded over cannula may need a different machine layout.
