Injection Moulding Machine for Syringe Barrels
Syringe barrels are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity hot runner moulds, from medical-grade PP or, for glass-like clarity, COP and COC. Cavity count sets the clamping force and shot weight more than barrel size does. Inside-diameter and concentricity consistency from cavity to cavity matters most, since every barrel must seal against its plunger.
Machine selection for syringe barrels centres on shot-to-shot repeatability, even filling of every cavity through the hot runner and steady mould temperature along the long core. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for syringe barrel production and can recommend a configuration for your cavity count and mould.

Machine Requirements for Syringe Barrel Moulding
Barrel tools are long-cored and highly cavitated, so a machine is judged on how evenly it fills and holds every cavity:
- Clamping force sized to the full hot runner cavity layout
- Shot weight matched to barrel capacity across all cavities
- Even cavity balance for a consistent barrel inside diameter
- Core cooling that keeps the long core straight and centred
- Mould height and opening stroke for long barrel ejection
- Clean moulding area and closed handling for medical-grade resin
Recommended Machine for Syringe Barrels
Barrel volume rarely decides the machine. Cavity layout and the hot runner do. Lower-cavity barrel tools may run on the E Series (75-180 T), while higher-cavity tools usually move to the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T). Very large multi-cavity layouts can need more clamping force, and larger sizes are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions syringe makers ask our engineers before ordering a barrel machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Syringe Barrels?
A horizontal machine sized by the hot runner tool. Smaller layouts often sit in the E Series, while larger layouts need the C or H Series. How many barrels run together matters more than the volume of each one.Why Do Some Syringe Barrels Use COP or COC Instead of PP?
COP and COC give glass-like clarity and low extractables, which suits prefilled and drug-contact syringes. PP stays the usual choice for disposable syringes. Both cyclic olefins run at different melt and mould temperatures from PP, so the process is developed fresh for the tool. What Causes Variation Between Barrels From Different Cavities?
Unequal hot runner tip temperatures, uneven core cooling and core shift on the long core are the usual causes. Each one changes inside diameter or wall thickness, and the plunger then seals well in some barrels and poorly in others.
Is Graduation Printing Done on the Moulding Machine?
No. Graduations are printed on a separate line after moulding, which in many plants also applies the silicone oil. The moulding machine needs to deliver barrels with a clean, consistent outside surface that takes print evenly. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Syringe Barrel?
Yes. Share the barrel drawing and nominal volume, resin grade, cavity count, hot runner details, mould dimensions and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Medical Sector Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. The same class of machine can mould syringe plungers, luer lock fittings, needle hubs and pipette tips, each with its own cavity layout and clean handling needs.
