Injection Moulding Machine for Pharma Vial Closures and Tamper-Evident Caps

Pharma vial and bottle closures with tamper-evident bands are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in high-cavity hot runner moulds, from PP, HDPE or LDPE. Cavity count and the thread release method, stripped or unscrewed, set the machine size and stroke. Hot runner balance matters most, as uneven filling shows up as weak tamper bridges and scrap.

For pharma closures, selection focuses on shot-to-shot consistency across every drop, cycle stability over long runs and space for unscrewing drives where the thread needs them. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for pharma closure production and can recommend a configuration for your cap, mould and output.

Machine Requirements for Pharma Closure and Tamper-Evident Cap Moulding

A pharma closure is judged with its container, so seal, thread and tamper features all have to hold together:

  • Balanced hot runner filling across all cavities
  • Even filling of thin tamper-evident band bridges
  • Stripping or unscrewing ejection to suit the thread form
  • Mould temperature control for consistent thread shrinkage
  • Child-resistant outer and inner shells kept as a matched pair
  • Liner seat and sealing bead free of flash

Recommended Machine for Pharma Closures

Pharma closures are light parts, but high-cavity tools spread over a wide platen area and unscrewing moulds add height and stroke. Lower-cavity stripping tools suit the E Series (75-180 T), with Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machines as an option. Higher cavity counts and unscrewing moulds usually point to H Series (120-350 T) presses, or C Series (140-320 T) where a wider platen helps.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What pharma packaging makers ask when planning closure capacity.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Pharma Vial and Bottle Closures?
A horizontal machine sized by cavities and thread release. Lower-cavity stripped caps often suit Hybrid PH or E Series models, and high-cavity or unscrewing moulds go to the C or H Series.
  • How Is the Tamper-Evident Band Moulded?
The band is moulded with the cap and joined to it by thin bridges that break on first opening. Some designs are slit or folded after moulding. Uneven filling leaves bridges too weak or too strong, so cavity balance is watched closely.
  • Are Child-Resistant Closures Moulded Differently?
A push-and-turn closure is usually an outer and inner shell from two tools, assembled afterwards. The finished closure is tested with its container for child resistance and adult use, so both shells must hold their dimensions over the whole run.
  • Is the Liner Moulded in the Cap?
No. Liners and wads are fitted after moulding and form part of the seal specification. The moulded liner seat and sealing bead must stay clean and flash-free so the liner sits flat and seals on the bottle.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Pharma Closure?
Yes. Share the closure drawing, container neck finish, resin, cavities, thread release method, mould dimensions and annual quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Pharma Packaging Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. It can also run droppers, dosing cups, specimen containers and inhaler actuator parts, each with its own tool.
