Injection Moulding Machine for Medical Equipment Parts

Medical equipment parts such as levers, gears, manifolds and internal mechanisms are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from engineering plastics including PC, POM, PSU and PEEK. Part size, core pulls for manifold channels and material melt temperature decide the machine. The sterilisation method matters most, because reusable parts must survive repeated cycles rather than one exposure.

Selection for equipment parts focuses on barrel and mould temperature range for high-temperature resins, careful drying and accurate shrinkage control on gears and fitted mechanisms. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for medical equipment part moulding and can recommend a configuration for your part, resin and mould.

Machine Requirements for Medical Equipment Part Moulding

Equipment parts run in lower volumes than disposables, but their resins and tolerances ask more of the machine:

  • Barrel heating and mould temperature control for PEEK and PSU
  • Thorough drying of PC, PSU and PEEK before moulding
  • Shrinkage control for gear tooth form and mating fits
  • Core pulls and slides for manifold ports and channels
  • Holding pressure that avoids sink at thick bosses and hubs
  • Resin chosen for the sterilisation method and imaging use

Recommended Machine for Medical Equipment Parts

Most mechanism parts are small to medium, and tonnage follows projected area, wall thickness and cavity count. Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machines and the E Series (75-180 T) suit many levers, gears and small manifolds. Larger manifolds, slide tools or multi-cavity gear moulds may call for the H Series (120-350 T) or a C Series machine. PEEK and PSU temperature needs are checked on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions equipment makers ask when moulding engineering-grade medical parts.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Medical Equipment Parts?
It depends on part size and resin. Small levers, gears and fittings often suit Hybrid PH or E Series machines, while larger manifolds and slide tools need the C or H Series, with barrel heating checked for high-temperature resins.
  • How Does the Sterilisation Method Affect Resin Choice?
Autoclave, EtO, gamma, e-beam and low-temperature plasma each rule out different polymers over repeated cycles. PEEK handles strength plus every common method, while PSU and PC suit autoclavable transparent parts. The method is fixed before resin and mould are chosen.
  • What Does Moulding PEEK or PSU Need From the Machine?
Both need high melt temperatures, a hot mould and thorough drying. Barrel heating, nozzle and mould temperature control must reach and hold those temperatures, and residence time is kept short to avoid degradation.
  • Why Does Radiolucency Matter for Some Equipment Parts?
Parts used near X-ray, CT or MRI equipment should not show on the image or disturb it. That favours plastics such as PEEK over metal parts, and any metal inserts in the moulding are reviewed against the imaging use.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Medical Equipment Part?
Yes. Share the part drawing, resin grade, sterilisation method, cavity count, core pull details, mould dimensions and annual quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Medical Device Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. Medical device housings, autoinjector and pen injector components, dental components and single-use surgical instrument handles can run on comparable machines, with resin and tonnage set per part.
