Injection Moulding Machine for Laboratory and Diagnostic Trays
Laboratory and diagnostic trays are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in PP, PS, ABS or conductive PP for static-sensitive use. Tray footprint sets projected area and clamp force, and pocket depth sets mould height. Holding datum and nesting features to size matters most, because these trays feed instruments and automated sorting lines.
Because the trays are handled by machines as well as people, selection weighs shot-to-shot repeat and injection pressure for filled grades. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal machines for lab tray moulds and can propose a configuration, with any clean moulding area set by your own process.

Machine Requirements for Laboratory and Diagnostic Tray Moulding
Lab trays are located by instruments, so dimensional repeat matters as much as appearance. Points to cover:
- Datum and locating features held to size every shot
- Flatness so trays seat in instruments and racks
- Higher injection pressure for carbon-filled ESD PP grades
- Screw and barrel suited to abrasive conductive fillers
- Thorough purging after black ESD grades before light colours
- PP grades chosen for autoclave and reagent contact
Recommended Machine for Laboratory and Diagnostic Trays
Sample and reagent trays with a modest footprint often run on the E Series (75-180 T). Full-format instrument trays, deep pocket trays and conductive grades that need extra injection pressure are better placed on the H Series (120-350 T), or on the C Series (140-320 T) where its platen suits the mould, sized from projected area and shot weight.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
What lab consumable makers usually ask before they commit a tray tool to a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Laboratory and Diagnostic Trays?
The choice follows tray format. Small reagent and sample trays generally sit in the E Series, and full-size or deep-pocket instrument trays in the C or H Series, with conductive grades pushing toward a larger injection unit.Do ESD and Conductive Grades Mould Differently?
Yes. Carbon-filled PP flows stiffer and freezes faster, so it needs higher injection pressure and speed and a warmer mould. The filler wears the screw and check ring, and surface resistance can vary with flow direction and gate position. How Are Nesting and Datum Features Kept to Size?
Datums are formed in the fixed half where the design allows, and cooled evenly, with stable holding pressure and mould temperature from shot to shot. Shrinkage is measured on trial trays after they settle, and the mould steel is corrected before production.
Which Resin Suits Trays That Meet Reagents or Autoclaving?
PP handles autoclave cycles and many aqueous reagents. PS gives clarity and stiffness and ABS gives toughness for single-use trays, but both have lower heat and solvent resistance, so the reagent list is reviewed before the grade is fixed. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Laboratory / Diagnostic Tray?
Yes. Share the tray drawing or sample, resin grade including any ESD grade, part weight, mould dimensions, trays per mould and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Laboratory Consumables Too?
Yes. Machines in this range also mould petri dishes, pipette tips, microplates and PCR plates, and test kit housings, although tip and plate moulds may favour different screw sizes and mould layouts.
