Injection Moulding Machine for Inhaler Actuators and Spacer Components

Inhaler actuators and spacer components are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, from PP, HDPE, POM or PBT, in multi-cavity moulds for actuators and larger tools for spacer chambers. Cavity count and part size set the clamp. The moulded spray orifice matters most, since its bore controls the plume and the delivered dose.

Machine selection for inhaler parts focuses on steady injection that fills the orifice region the same way every shot, and on close mould temperature control near the orifice pin. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for actuator and spacer moulding and can recommend a configuration for your parts.

Machine Requirements for Inhaler Actuator and Spacer Moulding

An actuator carries a micron-scale spray orifice, while a spacer is a much larger chamber, so needs differ by part:

  • Repeatable injection around the orifice core pin
  • Flash-free stem block seat for the canister valve
  • Antistatic or conductive grades for spacer chamber walls
  • Venting at the orifice to prevent short shots
  • Platen space and stroke for deeper spacer chamber moulds
  • POM and PBT shrinkage control for inhaler mechanism parts

Recommended Machine for Inhaler Actuators and Spacers

Actuators are small and run in multi-cavity tools, so many actuator moulds fit an E Series (75-180 T) or Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machine. Spacer chambers and their end pieces are larger and deeper, and those tools often need the platen size and opening stroke of the C Series (140-320 T) or the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions respiratory device makers bring to us before tooling.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Inhaler Actuators?
A small horizontal machine for the actuator, usually a Hybrid PH or E Series model running a multi-cavity tool. Spacer chambers are bigger parts and move to the C or H Series depending on mould size and stroke.
  • Why Is the Actuator Orifice So Critical?
The orifice bore shapes the spray plume and sets how much drug reaches the patient. A fine core pin forms it, so pin wear, venting and fill consistency are checked cavity by cavity during validation.
  • Which Materials Are Used for Actuators and Spacers?
PP and HDPE are common for actuator bodies and spacer parts. POM and PBT suit mechanism parts that slide or click. Spacer chambers may use antistatic or conductive grades, because static on the wall holds drug particles back.
  • What Resin Records Do Drug-Contact Parts Need?
Buyers usually ask for each resin lot to be traceable, with a certificate of analysis and extractables and leachables data, because the part touches the formulation. Plan material storage and dryer labelling so lots are never mixed at the machine.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Inhaler Actuator or Spacer?
Yes. Share the part drawings, resin for each part, cavity counts, mould dimensions and annual volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drug Delivery Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. The same machines can run autoinjector components, droppers, dosing cups and pharma vial closures, each with its own tool.
