Injection Moulding Machine for Diagnostic and Rapid Test Cassettes

Diagnostic and rapid test cassettes are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually as top and bottom halves in multi-cavity or family moulds, from PS, ABS, PP or PC. Cavity count and the cassette footprint decide clamping force. Rib height and window size matter most, because they position the test strip and control sample flow.

For cassettes, machine selection centres on holding rib and snap dimensions on both halves, flash-free sample wells and steady shrinkage so the halves close with even strip compression. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for test cassette moulding and can recommend a configuration for your housing and mould.

Share your cassette drawing, resin, cavity layout for both halves and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.

Machine Requirements for Rapid Test Cassette Moulding

The cassette housing takes part in the test itself, so the machine has to hold its critical features shot after shot:

  • Rib height held steady for correct strip compression
  • Flash-free sample well and result window edges
  • Matched shrinkage between top and bottom halves
  • Snap-fit features that close with consistent force
  • Balanced runners for family moulds of both halves
  • Consistent masterbatch let-down for an even housing colour

Recommended Machine for Rapid Test Cassettes

Cassettes are small, flat parts, so cavity count and whether both halves share one tool set the machine. E Series (75-180 T) and Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machines suit many cassette moulds, with electric injection on the PH helping shot repeatability. Higher-cavity family tools can need clamp from the C Series (140-320 T) or the H Series.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions diagnostic kit makers ask before tooling a cassette.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Rapid Test Cassettes?
In most cases, a small horizontal machine. E Series and Hybrid PH machines cover many single and family cassette tools, and high-cavity layouts for large test volumes can move to the C or H Series.
  • Why Do Rib Height and Window Size Matter in a Cassette?
The ribs press the nitrocellulose strip and the window frames the result. A small change in rib height alters strip compression and capillary flow, which can change the reading, so these dimensions are validated rather than treated as cosmetic.
  • What Causes Flash in the Sample Well?
A worn parting line, low clamp on a large family tool or excess injection pressure can push flash into the well. Any flash there can block or divert the sample, so it counts as a functional failure.
  • Should Top and Bottom Halves Be Moulded Together?
Family moulds keep the halves in matched pairs, but the two parts fill differently and need balanced runners. Separate tools allow independent process setting when snap fit or rib height needs fine adjustment.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Rapid Test Cassette?
Yes. Share drawings of both halves, resin grade, cavity counts, family or separate tooling, mould dimensions and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Diagnostic Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. Test kit housings, specimen and urine containers, blood collection tubes and laboratory trays can be moulded on similar machines, sized to each tool.
