Injection Moulding Machine for Blood Collection Tubes

Blood collection tubes are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity hot runner moulds, from PET for clarity and gas barrier or from PP. Cavity count and tube length set clamp force, shot weight and opening stroke. Keeping the long core centred matters most, because core shift changes wall thickness and the bore the closure seals on.

Tube moulding asks for repeatable injection of a small shot spread over many cavities. Pratishna Engineers can supply Hybrid PH machines with electric injection, as well as E, C and H Series models, for tube and closure tools, and will recommend a configuration for your cavity count.

Machine Requirements for Blood Collection Tube Moulding

A blood tube is a long, thin-walled part whose bore must stay round and centred. Machine selection usually covers:

  • Repeatable small shots across many hot runner cavities
  • Opening and ejector stroke for long tube cores
  • PET dried thoroughly before moulding to avoid brittle tubes
  • Cold mould and fast cooling to keep PET clear
  • Clean moulding area and resin lot traceability per buyer
  • Closure and stopper tools matched for vacuum sealing

Recommended Machine for Blood Collection Tubes

Tube moulds with moderate cavity counts can run on the Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T), where electric injection gives repeatable shots. Smaller tools fit the E Series (75-180 T), and higher-cavity layouts for long tubes need the platen size and stroke of the H Series (120-350 T) or a C Series (140-320 T) machine.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions diagnostic consumable manufacturers ask when they set up tube moulding.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Blood Collection Tubes?
A horizontal machine matched to cavity count and tube length. The Hybrid PH Series suits many mid-size tube tools, the E Series covers smaller ones, and high-cavity or long-tube moulds move to the C or H Series.
  • Why Is PET Used for Blood Collection Tubes?
PET gives a clear tube and a better gas barrier than PP, which helps the tube keep its vacuum through its shelf life. PP is used where barrier needs are lower. PET must be dried well and moulded against a cold mould to stay clear.
  • Where Do Vacuum Tube Programmes Usually Fail?
Often at the seal rather than the tube. Closure, stopper and tube mouth must fit together within tight limits, so bore size, mouth roundness and stopper compression are checked together during sampling, not tool by tool.
  • How Is the Long Core Kept From Shifting?
Gating at the closed end so melt flows evenly round the core, core cooling through a bubbler or baffle, and a mould design that locates the core tip all help. Injection speed is profiled so both sides fill at the same rate.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Blood Collection Tube?
Yes. Share the tube and closure drawings, resin grade, part weight, cavity count, mould dimensions, any clean moulding area plan and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Diagnostic Consumables Too?
Yes. Similar machines can produce specimen containers, pipette tips, droppers and pharma vial closures, provided the mould layout and screw size suit each part.
