Injection Moulding Machine for Autoinjector and Pen Injector Components

Autoinjector and pen injector components are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, often in low to mid-cavity precision moulds, from PC, POM, PA12 or COP. Part size, cavity count and the number of slides set the machine. Dimensional repeatability matters most, because mechanism parts must fit within narrow tolerance windows on every lot.

Machine selection for these parts focuses on repeatable injection and holding, stable mould temperature from a qualified chiller and process data the buyer’s validation can rely on. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for drug delivery device components and can recommend a configuration for your parts.

Machine Requirements for Autoinjector and Pen Injector Moulding

Drug delivery mechanisms leave little room for drift, so the machine and its peripherals become part of the validated process:

  • Repeatable shot weight and holding pressure for tight tolerances
  • Stable mould temperature from a chiller qualified at installation
  • Slides and core pulls for dose dial threads and clips
  • POM shrinkage control for snap arms and sliding interfaces
  • Drying for PC, PA12 and COP before moulding
  • Process data recording to support buyer validation

Recommended Machine for Autoinjector and Pen Injector Components

Most autoinjector and pen parts are small, so the press is chosen by mould size and slide layout more than projected area. Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machines, with electric injection, and E Series (75-180 T) machines cover many housings, dose dials and plunger rods. Larger multi-cavity housing tools may move up to H Series (120-350 T) or, for a wider platen, C Series (140-320 T) machines.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions drug delivery device makers ask us during machine planning.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Autoinjector Components?
Small to mid-size horizontal machines with steady injection. Dose dials, plunger rods and caps often sit on Hybrid PH or E Series models, while larger housing tools with several slides can need a C or H Series machine.
  • How Tight Are the Tolerances on Pen Injector Parts?
Tighter than most moulded parts, because the mechanism sets the delivered dose. Exact limits come from the device drawing. Mould temperature, holding pressure and resin lot all shift dimensions, so each is controlled and recorded during validation.
  • Why Use POM for Mechanism Parts and COP for Drug Contact?
POM has low friction and good fatigue life, so it suits snap arms, clutches and sliding interfaces. COP or COC is used where parts touch the drug, for clarity and low extractables. Each shrinks differently, so tools are designed per resin.
  • What Does Validation Require From the Machine?
Buyers usually qualify the press, chiller and dryer at installation, then confirm the process window on each mould. Repeatable settings, stable temperature control and recorded process data make that work easier to complete and maintain.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Autoinjector or Pen Injector Part?
Yes. Share the part drawings, resin for each part, cavity counts, slide layout, mould dimensions and annual volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Injection Device Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. It can also run syringe plungers, luer lock fittings, inhaler actuator parts and veterinary syringe components, each with its own tool.
