Injection Moulding Machine for Carry Case and Tool Case Bodies with Living Hinge

Small carry cases and tool case bodies with a moulded living hinge are made in PP copolymer on horizontal injection moulding machines, with body and lid moulded as one piece. Open body and lid area, case depth and mould height decide the machine. Gating matters most, because the melt must flow across the hinge so it survives repeated opening.

Because the case is moulded open, the clamp must cover the projected area of body and lid together and the stroke must clear the case depth. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for these cases and can suggest a size.

Machine Requirements for Carry Case and Tool Case Moulding

A one-piece case removes the hinge assembly but asks more of the mould and the press. Points to check before choosing a machine:

  • Clamping force for body and lid area moulded open
  • Opening stroke and mould height for deep case halves
  • Gate placed so melt flows across the hinge line
  • Hinge flexed straight after ejection while warm
  • Balanced cooling to limit warpage on flat lid panels
  • Moulded-in latch and stacking features with clean ejection

Recommended Machine for Carry Case and Tool Case Bodies

These cases are at the larger end of luggage mouldings. C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T) machines suit mid-size tool and carry case moulds, while the E Series (75-180 T) covers the smallest vanity and accessory cases. Cases bigger than this are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What case and tool box makers ask before they buy a press.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Small Carry Cases?
Mid-size horizontal machines in the C or H Series, sized by the open area of body and lid and by case depth. Only the smallest cases fit the E Series, and bigger ones are discussed on request.
  • How Does a Living Hinge Case Avoid Cracking at the Hinge?
The hinge needs a thin, even section, with the gate placed so the melt crosses it in one direction. Flexing the hinge a few times right after ejection orients the PP and gives it a long flex life.
  • Can ABS or Glass-Filled PP Be Used for a Living Hinge Case?
PP copolymer is the material for a moulded living hinge. ABS and glass-filled PP give stiffer bodies but do not flex at a hinge, so cases in those grades use a separate hinge or pin.
  • Why Do Case Lids Warp?
Large flat lids cool unevenly when wall thickness varies or mould cooling is out of balance, and PP shrinks more than ABS. Even walls, ribbing and balanced cooling keep the lid flat so the latch closes.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Carry Case?
Yes. Share the case drawing or sample, material, part weight, mould dimensions including height, case depth and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Case and Luggage Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould case latches and catches, trolley base brackets and grip housings, and corner protector tools, subject to the mould.
