Injection Moulding Machine for Case Latches, Hinges and Catches
Hard case latches, hinges and catches are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, in glass-filled nylon where they carry load, POM where they slide and ABS for covers. Part size, cavities and slides for pin holes decide the machine. Moisture uptake in nylon matters most, since latch fit has to be set at conditioned size.
Latches and hinges sit on the load path between the case shells, so selection looks at fibre-filled moulding, drying and stable dimensions. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal machines for case hardware and can recommend a configuration from your parts and moulds.

Machine Requirements for Case Latch and Hinge Moulding
Hard cases tend to fail where the shell load enters the latch or hinge, so these parts need strength as well as a repeatable fit. Requirements:
- Wear-resistant screw and check ring for glass-filled nylon
- Dryer sized for nylon before moulding
- Gate and fibre direction set along the latch load path
- Slides for hinge pin bores and latch pockets
- Gauging to conditioned nylon size, not dry-as-moulded
- PP living-hinge catches flexed straight after ejection
Recommended Machine for Case Latches and Hinges
Most latch, catch and small hinge moulds fit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger hinges for big cases, family tools or moulds with several slides may need the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T), chosen by mould size and projected area.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions hard case makers ask about latches, hinges and catches.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Case Latches and Hinges?
Horizontal machines sized to the part. Most latches and catches run on the E Series, while larger hinges, family tools or moulds with several slides move to the C or H Series. Why Does Latch Fit Change After Moulding?
Nylon absorbs moisture from the air after moulding and grows slightly. If the latch is gauged dry, the fit drifts once it conditions, so parts should be designed and checked at conditioned dimensions. How Is a Case Latch Tested?
With a fatigue test that opens, closes and loads the latch many times, rather than a single static pull. Failures start where load passes from the case shell into the latch, so fibre direction there matters.
Can a Catch Be Moulded With a Living Hinge?
Yes, if the catch is moulded in PP. The thin hinge section should be flexed straight after ejection, while still warm, so it does not crack in use. PP is the usual material for this. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Case Latch?
Yes. Share the latch, hinge and catch drawings or samples, materials, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Hard Case Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can make small carry case bodies, luggage lock housings, trolley components and corner protectors, subject to the mould size.
