Injection Moulding Machine for Safety Spectacle Frames and Temples

Safety spectacle frames, temples and side shields are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PC or TR90 nylon, with TPE nose pads and temple tips often two-shot. Small part size, cavity count and the soft overmould decide the machine. Material choice matters most, since the frame must pass high-velocity impact tests.

Machine selection for spectacle frames focuses on small, accurate shots, dry PC and nylon, and a clean TPE bond at the nose and temple. Pratishna Engineers builds two-shot machines to application as special purpose machines, offers horizontal machines for frames without the soft overmould, and can suggest a set-up for your range.

Machine Requirements for Safety Spectacle Frame Moulding

Spectacle frames are small parts where impact rating, fit and the soft-touch overmould count for more than tonnage. Points for the machine:

  • Small, repeatable shots for frame and temple tools
  • Thorough drying of PC and TR90 before moulding
  • Strong TPE nose pad and temple tip overmould bond
  • Weld lines kept away from hinge and bridge sections
  • Hinge bores and temple fits held cavity to cavity
  • Gloss or texture finish with no gate mark on faces

Recommended Machine for Safety Spectacle Frames

Frames, temples and side shields are small, so most single-material moulds sit well within the E Series (75-180 T), with the C Series (140-320 T) for high-cavity hot runner tools and H Series (120-350 T) for large family tools. A frame with TPE pads or tips moulded on in the same cycle needs a machine built to application, and Pratishna Engineers builds such special purpose machines.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to the points eyewear moulders check first when they plan a safety frame line.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Safety Spectacle Frames?
Single-material frames, temples and side shields usually run on the E Series because the parts are small. Large family tools may use the C or H Series. Frames with a two-shot TPE overmould need a special purpose machine.
  • Why Are PC and Nylon Used for Safety Spectacle Frames?
Impact rating drives the choice. PC and TR90 nylon take the high-mass and high-velocity impact tests where softer resins crack. Dry both fully before moulding to avoid splay marks and brittle hinge sections.
  • Can Nose Pads and Temple Tips Be Moulded On?
Yes. TPE pads and tips are often overmoulded onto the rigid core, either two-shot on a special purpose machine or by transferring the core into a second tool. Check the bond after ageing, as peeling pads cause complaints.
  • Is the Lens Part of the Frame Moulding?
No. The lens is a separate optical part with its own optical class requirement, moulded or bought in separately. Approval covers the complete spectacle, so the frame moulder works to the same test regime as the brand.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Safety Spectacle Frame?
Yes. Share frame, temple and side shield drawings or samples, materials, overmould plan, part weights, mould sizes, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Eye Protection Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines mould safety goggles frames, face shield headgear, visor clamp and pivot parts, and welding helmet ADF cartridge housings, subject to mould size.
