Injection Moulding Machine for Paint Pails

Paint pails are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with the pail body, lid and handle each run in a separate mould, from PP copolymer or HDPE. Projected area of the rim and lid, shot weight and mould height for a deep body decide the machine size. Fast, even filling of the thin side wall matters most.

Machine selection for a paint pail centres on mould height and opening stroke for the deep body, injection speed for the thin wall and room for an IML robot. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for pail moulding and can suggest a configuration for each tool in the set.

Share your pail size, wall thickness, lid and handle drawings, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine for each mould.

Machine Requirements for Paint Pail Moulding

A paint pail set is three moulds with different needs, and the deep body sets the largest machine. Points to check:

  • Mould height and opening stroke for a deep pail body
  • Fast injection to fill thin side walls before freezing
  • Clamping force sized on rim and lid projected area
  • Even core cooling to hold roundness for lid fit
  • Space for IML robot and label handling where decorated
  • Stable melt from recycled PP blends lot to lot

Recommended Machine for Paint Pails

Smaller pails and their lids can suit the C Series (140-320 T), while larger pail bodies and deeper moulds point to the H Series (120-350 T), which reaches higher tonnage. Very large pails and multi-cavity IML tools need more clamping force than these series offer and are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions paint and coatings packaging buyers often ask about moulding pails.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Paint Pails?
Horizontal machines in the C or H Series cover small to mid-size pails and their lids. A handle grip is a small part and can run on a smaller machine in a multi-cavity tool. Pails above that size are reviewed on request.
  • Should the Pail, Lid and Handle Be Quoted Together?
Yes. They are three separate moulds, often on different machine sizes, and the lid must shrink in step with the pail rim to seal. Planning them as a set avoids a lid that fits loosely or locks too hard.
  • Can Paint Pails Be Decorated With In-Mould Labels?
Yes, IML is common on branded paint pails. The mould and label robot have to be designed for it from the start, since adding IML to a plain tool later rarely works. Robot and label magazine form part of the moulding cell.
  • What Causes Paint Pails to Crack at the Rim or Handle Lug?
Cracks often start at weld lines around handle lugs, at sharp corners, or where a brittle recycled lot has entered the mix. Gate position, an impact copolymer grade, rim radii and checking each recycled lot reduce failures in drop tests.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Paint Pail?
Yes. Share the pail volume, drawings for body, lid and handle, material, wall thickness, mould dimensions, cavities, decoration method and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine for each tool.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Industrial Packaging Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould lube containers, pail and tub lids with tamper-evident rings, thin-wall square tubs and pail handle grips, subject to the mould size.
