Injection Moulding Machine for Pail and Tub Lids

Pail and tub lids with tamper-evident rings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in single or multi-cavity moulds, from PP copolymer or HDPE. A lid’s large flat projected area sets clamp tonnage, often close to the pail body itself. Flatness and a seal bead that shrinks in step with the pail rim matter most.

Lid moulding calls for clamp tonnage on the full lid face, fast filling across a thin panel and even cooling for flatness. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines suited to lid production and can work out a configuration matched to your lid and pail pair.

Moulding Pail and Tub Lids?

Share the lid drawing, matching pail rim, tamper ring design and output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.

Machine Requirements for Pail and Tub Lid Moulding

The lid decides whether a filled pail stays sealed and shows tampering, so the machine should offer:

  • Clamp tonnage for the full flat lid projected area
  • Fast injection to fill thin panels and tamper bridges
  • Balanced core and cavity cooling for a flat lid
  • Shrinkage matched to the pail body for seal fit
  • Clean break bridges free of flash and short shots
  • Mould space for an IML robot on branded lids

Recommended Machine for Pail and Tub Lids

Small lids in multi-cavity tools can start on the E Series (75-180 T). Mid-size lids for larger pails fit the C Series (140-320 T), and the H Series (120-350 T) covers the widest lids and multi-cavity tools at the top of the tonnage. Tonnage is checked on projected area, since a light lid can still need a large clamp.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What pail and tub makers often ask before tooling a lid.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Pail and Tub Lids?
Horizontal machines from the E Series for small lids through the C and H Series for larger ones. Machine choice follows lid diameter and cavity count rather than lid weight, because the flat face drives clamp force.
  • Why Does a Light Lid Need So Much Clamping Force?
Clamp force follows projected area, and a lid is almost all projected area. A lid weighing far less than its pail can need a similar machine, so tonnage is worked out on the full face plus runners.
  • How Are the Lid and Pail Qualified Together?
Both parts must shrink compatibly or the seal leaks or locks. Mould both from the same material grade, check fit at the rim after full shrinkage, and approve them as a pair before production.
  • Can the Tamper-Evident Ring Be Moulded With the Lid?
Yes. The ring is moulded in one shot with break bridges that open by hand but hold in transit. Bridge size, venting and even filling decide the break force, so they are checked during mould trials.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Pail Lid?
Yes. Share the lid and pail rim drawings, material, lid diameter, cavities, tamper ring design, decoration method and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Industrial Packaging Parts Too?
Yes. Lid machines can also run thin-wall square tubs, paint pails, lube containers and security seals, with the mould size setting the model.
