Injection Moulding Machine for Cloth Clips

Cloth clips, or clothes pegs, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, mostly from PP copolymer, with POM or PA6 for stiffer clips. Machine size follows the cavity count and the projected area of the arms. On one-piece clips, how the melt fills the moulded hinge sets fatigue life.

For clothes pegs, machine selection centres on repeatable shots across many cavities, steady cycles and a screw suited to PP. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for cloth clip production and can recommend a configuration from your clip design and mould.

Machine Requirements for Cloth Clip Moulding

Cloth clips are small parts, but buyers judge them on grip and on how long the hinge or arm lasts. Points to plan for:

  • PP copolymer grade for hinge and arm fatigue life
  • UV stabiliser in the compound for outdoor drying lines
  • Gate placed so melt crosses the moulded hinge in one direction
  • Matching jaw teeth from every cavity for even grip
  • Spring seat notch held to size for steel spring assembly
  • Balanced runner layout across a multi-cavity mould

Recommended Machine for Cloth Clips

Clothes pegs are light parts, so cavity count decides the machine more than part size does. Most peg moulds sit in the E Series (75-180 T). The H Series (120-350 T) takes high-cavity hot runner tools where the mould face, shot weight or clamping force goes past what the E Series offers.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions peg makers ask most often before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cloth Clips?
Horizontal machines, chosen by cavity count. Peg moulds with modest cavity numbers fit the E Series, while hot runner tools with many cavities that need more clamping force or shot capacity move up to the H Series.
  • Should I Mould a Spring Clip or a One-Piece Clip?
They are two designs and two quotes. A spring clip has two moulded arms and a bought-in steel spring fitted at assembly. A one-piece clip relies on a moulded hinge and integral spring, so material and gate position decide its life.
  • Why Do Outdoor Pegs Turn Brittle and Break?
Sunlight breaks down unstabilised PP, and pegs left on a line can crumble within one season. Adding a UV stabiliser to the compound or masterbatch slows this. PP copolymer also outlasts homopolymer under repeated opening.
  • How Is Fatigue Life Checked on Moulded Clips?
Sample clips are opened and closed repeatedly until a hinge or arm cracks, and the count is compared with the life agreed with your customer. Retest after any change of resin grade, regrind share or masterbatch.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cloth Clip?
Yes. Share the clip drawing or sample, material, part weight, spring or one-piece design, mould size, cavity count and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Household Products Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can run small household parts such as curtain rings, plastic hooks, clothes hangers and peg stand components, subject to the mould.
