Injection Moulding Machine for Furniture Legs, Feet and Levelling Glides

Furniture legs, feet and levelling glides are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP, ABS, POM or glass-filled PA6, often with a metal adjuster stud as an insert. Part size, wall section and insert loading decide machine size. Thread strength matters most, because the moulded thread carries the furniture load.

Machine selection for legs and glides weighs shot capacity for thick decorative legs against fine control for small threaded feet. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for furniture leg and glide moulding and can recommend a set-up around your designs.

Machine Requirements for Furniture Leg and Glide Moulding

Legs and feet carry load in service, and decorative legs are judged on looks as well. Things to check when choosing a machine:

  • Clean thread form on load-bearing adjuster feet
  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for glass-filled PA6
  • Insert loading time allowed for metal adjuster studs
  • Cored-out sections on thick legs to prevent sink
  • Dry PA6 and POM processed without voids
  • Opening stroke and mould height for long legs

Recommended Machine for Furniture Legs and Glides

Small glides and threaded feet in multi-cavity tools fit the E Series (75-180 T). Taller decorative legs with more shot weight and longer cores suit the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T), where opening stroke and platen size leave room for the longer mould.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points furniture makers raise when planning leg and glide production.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Furniture Legs and Glides?
Glides and levelling feet usually run on E Series machines in multi-cavity tools. Longer or heavier decorative legs move to the C or H Series, chosen by shot weight, mould height and opening stroke.
  • Why Use POM or Glass-filled Nylon Instead of PP for Levelling Feet?
PP creeps under constant load, so a threaded foot in PP can sink or strip over time. POM and glass-filled PA6 hold the thread form under the weight of the furniture. PP still suits light glides and leg caps.
  • How Is Sink Avoided on Thick Plastic Legs?
Thick sections shrink unevenly and leave sink marks on the visible face. Coring out the leg to a more even wall, with ribs for stiffness, and enough holding pressure near the gate keep the surface flat.
  • Should the Adjuster Stud Be Moulded In or Pressed In?
Moulding the stud in gives a stronger joint but adds insert loading to every cycle. Pressing the stud in after moulding keeps the cycle shorter. The choice depends on the load rating and volume.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Furniture Leg or Glide?
Yes. Share the leg or foot drawing, material, part weight, insert details, cavities, mould size and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Furniture Parts Too?
Yes. Caster wheels, trolley wheels, pipe end caps and furniture knobs are among the related parts these series can mould, depending on the mould.
