Injection Moulding Machine for Caster Wheels and Swivel Housings
Furniture caster wheels are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with soft-tread wheels needing a two-shot machine that overmoulds TPR or TPU onto a PA6, PP or POM hub. Projected area, cavity count and the shot weight of each material decide machine size. Thick tread sections are cooling-limited and sink easily, so tread thickness sets the cycle.
Two-shot caster selection centres on the bond between hub and tread and on balancing two shots in one cycle. Pratishna Engineers builds special purpose injection moulding machines to application for two-shot wheels and supplies horizontal machines for single-material wheels and housings.

Machine Requirements for Caster Wheel Moulding
A furniture caster has to roll quietly and carry weight, so the machine should support:
- Two-shot TPR or TPU tread bonded to the hub
- Hub and tread grades chosen for peel strength
- Coring and cooling for thick tread sections against sink
- Concentric axle bore so the wheel runs true
- Tread compound that resists flat-spotting under standing load
- Stiff PA6 swivel housing moulded as a separate part
Recommended Machine for Caster Wheels
Soft-tread wheels moulded in one cycle need a special purpose injection moulding machine built to application by Pratishna Engineers. Single-material wheels and swivel housings suit the E Series (75-180 T) for small chair castors, the C Series (140-320 T) for mid-size wheels and the H Series (120-350 T) for larger wheels or multi-cavity housing tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions furniture caster makers ask before choosing a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Caster Wheels?
That depends on how the wheel is built. A one-material wheel runs on a standard horizontal machine, while a hub with a bonded soft tread needs a two-shot special purpose machine built to application. How Is the Bond Between Hub and Tread Checked?
The bond is proven by a peel test on moulded wheels, not assumed from a datasheet. Hub and tread grades must be compatible, and hub surface temperature at overmoulding affects how well they bond. Why Do Caster Wheels Flat-Spot?
A wheel left standing under load can take a permanent flat if the tread compound creeps. Choose a tread grade with low compression set and keep the tread section even so it cools without voids.
Is the Caster Fork or Axle Moulded Too?
No. Steel forks, axles and bearings are bought in and assembled. Plastic swivel housings can be moulded in PA6 or PP on a standard horizontal machine as a separate part from the wheel. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Caster Wheel?
Yes. Share the wheel and housing drawings or samples, hub and tread materials, wheel diameter, part weights, mould dimensions and volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Wheel and Furniture Parts Too?
Standard machines in this range also mould trolley wheels, furniture legs and levelling glides, pipe end caps and drawer channel rollers, subject to each mould.
