Injection Moulding Machine for Impellers, Fan Blades and Pump Rotors

Impellers, fan blades and pump rotors are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, often with a centre gate at the hub, from glass-filled PA66, PPS, glass-filled PBT or POM. Machine size depends on rotor diameter, projected area and shot weight. Balance decides acceptance, so gate position, fibre orientation and core alignment are held closely.

Selection for rotating parts focuses on stable shot weight and repeatable injection control, since small fill variation shows up as imbalance and vibration at speed. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for impeller and rotor moulding and can recommend a configuration for your part and mould.

Machine Requirements for Impeller and Rotor Moulding

Rotors are judged on balance and blade strength at speed, which puts demands on filling and cooling. Points to cover when selecting a machine:

  • Gate position that keeps weld lines away from blade roots
  • Even fibre orientation to avoid imbalance at running speed
  • Rigid core location so the bore stays concentric
  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for glass-filled PA66 and PBT
  • Mould temperature control capable of the hot mould PPS needs
  • Opening stroke for deep shrouded impellers and long cores

Recommended Machine for Impellers, Fan Blades and Pump Rotors

Small fan blades and pump impellers fit the E Series (75-180 T), sometimes in multi-cavity moulds. Larger shrouded impellers, axial fan rotors and moulds with side cores need more platen area and opening stroke, which brings in C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T) machines. Shot weight against barrel capacity confirms the choice.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions pump and fan makers ask most before choosing a machine for rotors.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Impellers and Fan Blades?
A horizontal machine sized to the rotor and mould. Small impellers and fan blades usually run in the E Series. Large diameter rotors, shrouded impellers and side-core moulds move to the C or H Series.
  • Why Does a Moulded Impeller Run Out of Balance?
Imbalance comes from mass that is not evenly spread: uneven fibre orientation, a core that shifts under injection pressure, or blades that fill unevenly. A centre gate, rigid core support and steady process settings help keep every blade the same.
  • Should a Pump Impeller Use PPS or Glass-Filled Nylon?
Glass-filled PA66 suits many water and air duties. Hot water, chemicals or fuels often call for PPS, which holds its dimensions and resists the media better. PPS needs a hot mould and flashes easily, so parting line fit matters.
  • Does Glass Fibre Wear the Moulding Machine?
Yes. Glass-filled PA66, PBT and PPS wear the screw, check ring and barrel faster than unfilled grades. A wear-resistant screw and barrel is specified for these materials, and back pressure is kept moderate to limit fibre breakage.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Impeller?
Yes. Share the impeller or rotor drawing, material, part weight, mould dimensions, number of cavities and production quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Rotating and Fluid Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines mould valve bodies and manifold parts, sprockets and timing pulleys, plastic gears and castor wheels, subject to the mould and material.
