Injection Moulding Machine for Castor Wheels and Roller Wheels

Castor and roller wheels with a soft tread are made on two-shot injection moulding machines: a rigid PA6, PP or POM hub with an overmoulded TPU or TPE tread. Machine size follows wheel diameter, tread thickness and both shot weights. Tread to hub bond matters most and is proven by a peel test, not assumed from the datasheet.

Selection for two-material wheels depends on the shot ratio between hub and tread and on how the mould transfers the hub. Pratishna Engineers builds special purpose machines to application for two-shot wheels, supplies horizontal machines for single-material wheels, and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Castor and Roller Wheel Moulding

Castor and roller wheels combine a load-bearing hub with a tread that must not flat-spot or peel. Machine selection should consider:

  • Two-shot process for a TPU or TPE tread on a rigid hub
  • Material pairing and hub surface that give a peel-tested bond
  • Long cooling time for thick tread sections prone to sink
  • Drying for PA6 hubs and TPU tread material
  • Creep-resistant compound so parked wheels do not flat-spot
  • Concentric bore for the axle or bearing seat

Recommended Machine for Castor Wheels and Roller Wheels

A two-shot wheel with an overmoulded tread needs a machine built to application, and Pratishna Engineers builds special purpose machines to application for it. Single-material PP, PA6 or POM wheels run on standard machines: smaller wheels on the E Series (75-180 T), larger wheels or multi-cavity moulds on the C Series (140-320 T), or the H Series (120-350 T) where mould height calls for it.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common buyer questions on moulding castor and roller wheels.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Castor Wheels?
It depends on the wheel build. A soft-tread wheel moulded in one cycle needs a special purpose two-shot machine built to application. A single-material wheel is sized to its mould on the E, C or H Series.
  • How Is the Tread Bonded to the Hub?
The TPU or TPE tread is moulded directly onto the hub in the second shot, and the bond depends on the material pair and hub surface. Peel tests on sample wheels confirm it, since datasheet values do not reflect the actual mould.
  • Why Do Thick Wheel Treads Show Sink Marks?
Thick tread sections cool slowly from the inside, so the surface pulls in as the core shrinks. Longer holding pressure and cooling time help, and coring out the hub or tread section where the design allows reduces sink.
  • Which Material Stops a Wheel From Flat-Spotting?
Flat spots form when a wheel stands under load and the material creeps. Hub and tread compounds are chosen on creep resistance at the rated load, often with POM or PA6 hubs and a harder TPU tread for heavier duty.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Castor Wheel?
Yes. Share the wheel drawing or sample, hub and tread materials, part weights, mould dimensions, number of cavities and production quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Engineering Parts Too?
Yes. Single-material machines in this range also mould rollers, knobs and handwheels, plastic bearings and conveyor components, subject to the mould and material.
