Injection Moulding Machine for LED Lenses and Reflectors

LED lenses and reflectors are made on horizontal injection moulding machines with precise injection control, from optical PMMA, optical PC, or COP and COC. Size follows lens diameter, thickness and cavity count. The deciding process point is shot-to-shot stability through slow fill and long holding pressure, because shrinkage varies with local wall thickness and sets the optical tolerance.

Lens moulding depends on repeatable injection speed and pack profile more than on raw clamp force. Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines for LED optics and can recommend a configuration for your lens, TIR optic or reflector.

Machine Requirements for LED Lens and Reflector Moulding

Optical parts show every flow line, weld line and void, so the process window is narrow. Selection should cover:

  • Repeatable injection speed and a long holding pressure profile
  • Gate position that keeps flow lines off the beam path
  • Thorough drying of PMMA and PC to prevent splay
  • Clean barrel and purge routine to avoid black specks
  • Mould temperature control for thick lens sections
  • Gentle ejection that does not mark the polished optical face

Recommended Machine for LED Lenses and Reflectors

The Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T), with electric injection, suits lens moulds where fill and pack repeatability decides the yield. Small multi-cavity lenses and reflectors also run on the E Series (75-180 T). Larger street-light lens plates and linear optics go to the C Series (140-320 T), with the H Series (120-350 T) for the largest family tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What optics makers ask us before ordering a lens moulding machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make LED Lenses?
A machine with fine control of injection speed and pack. The Hybrid PH Series suits many lens moulds, the E Series covers small multi-cavity optics, and the C or H Series takes larger lens plates and linear optics.
  • Should the Lens Be Moulded in PMMA or PC?
PMMA passes more light and resists scratching better but is brittle. PC is a little less clear and far tougher, so it suits lenses exposed to impact or heat. COP and COC suit precision optics that need very low moisture uptake.
  • Why Do Thick LED Lenses Take Long Cycles?
Thick sections need slow fill and a long sustained pack to avoid sink and voids, then enough cooling time to set without distortion. Flow lines and gate marks bend the beam, so the cycle is not cut short to gain output.
  • How Are Metallised Reflectors Produced?
The reflector body is moulded first, in a mirror-polished cavity, with no flow marks on the reflecting face. A paint or vacuum metallising step follows, so clean handling at ejection and dust-free storage matter as much as the moulding.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My LED Lens?
Yes. Share the lens or reflector drawing, optical resin, lens thickness, mould size, cavity count and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other LED Lighting Parts Too?
Yes. With a suitable screw and mould, it can also run LED bulb housings, driver enclosures, terminal blocks and lamp holders.
