Injection Moulding Machine for LED Driver Housings and Enclosures

LED driver housings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually as a base and cover pair, from FR PC, glass-filled PBT or PA66, and PPO. Size depends on enclosure length, wall thickness and cavity count. The main process point is holding the moulded creepage ribs and clearance gaps to drawing, since they form part of the electrical safety design.

Selection for driver enclosures focuses on clean filling of thin flame-rated walls, glass fibre handling and steady mould temperature. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for LED driver housings and can recommend a configuration for your enclosure range.

Machine Requirements for LED Driver Housing Moulding

A driver housing has to pass flame, glow wire and tracking tests and then run hot for years. The machine should support:

  • Moulded-in creepage ribs and clearance gaps held to drawing
  • Glass-filled PBT and PA66 with a wear-resistant barrel
  • Thin flame-rated walls filled without burn marks
  • Short residence time so FR additives do not degrade
  • Flat base and cover faces for potting or snap fits
  • Drying of PA66, PBT and PC before moulding

Recommended Machine for LED Driver Housings

Driver enclosures range from short indoor cases to long linear and outdoor boxes. The E Series (75-180 T) covers indoor driver cases and multi-cavity cover moulds. Long linear housings, outdoor drivers and family moulds carrying base and cover together can need the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T), sized to the mould and shot.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from driver makers about moulding flame-rated enclosures.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make LED Driver Housings?
A horizontal machine is used. Indoor driver cases often fit the E Series, while long linear and outdoor enclosures move to the C or H Series. Final size comes from the projected area of base and cover and the shot weight.
  • Why Must Flame and Tracking Tests Be Repeated After a Grade Change?
Flame, glow wire and tracking results belong to one grade, colour and glass content at a stated wall thickness. For glass-filled nylon at thin walls, glow wire and tracking are often harder to pass than the flame rating, so re-test after any change.
  • Does the Driver Housing Need Heat-Aged Material Data?
Yes. Driver compartments in high-bay, outdoor and recessed fittings run hot, so select the resin on its properties after heat ageing, not on fresh datasheet values. Brittle snap fits and cracked bosses can be the first sign of a grade chosen on fresh data.
  • Is the Housing Resin Compatible With Potting Compound?
It has to be checked. Some potting compounds attack the housing resin, and stress cracking can appear months after the drivers ship. Confirm compatibility with the compound supplier and keep moulded-in stress low through gate position, cooling and holding pressure.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My LED Driver Housing?
Yes. Share the base and cover drawings, flame-rated grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Lighting Electronics Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines mould LED bulb housings, terminal blocks and luminaire junction boxes, and lamp holder bodies, depending on mould size and grade.
