Injection Moulding Machine for Plug Tops

Plug tops for 2-pin and 3-pin plugs are moulded in thermoplastic grades such as PC, PA66 and ABS on horizontal injection moulding machines, with the base and cover in separate cavities. Cavities per mould and pin seat accuracy decide the machine. Pin spacing must stay true after shrinkage, so mould temperature and holding pressure are set closely.

Plug top machine selection centres on small, repeatable shots, multi-cavity moulds and drying for PC and nylon. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for plug top production and can recommend a configuration for your plug design.

Machine Requirements for Plug Top Moulding

A plug top must hold its pins square, close with its cover and grip the cord. Machine considerations for this part:

  • Accurate pin seats and pin hole spacing after shrinkage
  • Drying for PC and PA66 to avoid moisture streaks
  • Screw bosses that take assembly screws without cracking
  • Cord grip ribs that fill without short shots
  • Small, repeatable shot weight across multi-cavity moulds
  • UV-stabilised grades for outdoor and industrial plugs

Recommended Machine for Plug Tops

Plug top bases and covers are small parts, and the E Series (75-180 T) covers most of their multi-cavity moulds. Heavy-duty and industrial plugs, larger housings or higher cavity counts can need a C or H Series machine, checked against projected area and shot size.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to what plug top makers ask most about machines.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plug Tops?
For thermoplastic plug tops, a horizontal machine in the E Series covers most household and light-duty moulds. Industrial plug housings and larger multi-cavity tools are matched to the C or H Series.
  • Can Urea Plug Tops Be Made on These Machines?
Urea is a thermoset, moulded by compression or on a thermoset machine, so it does not run on a standard thermoplastic machine. PC, PA66 and ABS plug tops do.
  • Are Brass Pins Moulded In?
In rewireable plug tops the pins are usually fitted after moulding into moulded seats. Designs with moulded-in pins, or plugs moulded onto a cord, need insert loading and a separate mould review.
  • Which Material Suits Heavy-Duty Plug Tops?
PC and PA66 are often chosen for heavy-duty and industrial plugs for impact and heat resistance. Both absorb moisture, so dry them before moulding to avoid splay and brittle parts.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plug Top?
Yes. Share the plug drawing or sample, material grade, part weights, mould dimensions, number of cavities and daily output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical Building Products Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould switch contact carriers, lamp holders, terminal blocks and cable glands, subject to mould and material.
