Injection Moulding Machine for Solar Junction Boxes
Solar junction boxes, the potted boxes on the back of a solar module, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, mostly from PPO/PPE alloy. Box and lid size, cavity count and the cable outlet cores set the machine. Lid and base sealing faces must stay flat, because they decide whether the box stays dry outdoors.
Machine selection for a solar junction box looks at base and lid moulds together, the approved grade to be run and how the gasket is added. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for solar junction box production and can recommend a setup for your design.

Machine Requirements for Solar Junction Box Moulding
A junction box spends decades in sun and rain on a solar module, so moulding needs to deliver:
- Even cooling so lid and base seal faces resist warpage
- Exact approved PPO/PPE or PC grade, no substitutes
- Core pulls for cable outlet and connector entries
- Clean surfaces inside the box for potting adhesion
- Drying of PPO/PPE alloy and PC before moulding
- Gate position and holding pressure set for low moulded-in stress
Recommended Machine for Solar Junction Boxes
Compact junction boxes and lids in two or four cavities often fit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger boxes with several cable outlets, or base and lid run as a family, can need the C Series (140-320 T), and the H Series (120-350 T) suits the biggest sizes and multi-cavity base moulds.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Common questions from solar junction box makers.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Solar Junction Boxes?
A horizontal machine sized to the box base, usually in the E Series for compact boxes. Boxes with more outlets, or base and lid in one tool, move up to the C or H Series. Why Is PPO/PPE the Usual Material for Solar Junction Boxes?
It combines stiffness, heat resistance, flame retardance and low dielectric loss, and holds up in long outdoor service. UV-stabilised PC and glass-filled PA66 are also used on some designs. Can the Moulder Use an Equivalent Grade Instead of the Approved One?
Generally no. Module approvals are tied to the exact grade and colour tested, so a change can void the approval. The moulder should run the specified approved grade only.
How Is the Gasket Added to the Junction Box Lid?
A TPE or rubber gasket is fitted into a groove at assembly, or added in a second mould with the moulded lid as an insert. Groove flatness and size decide whether the seal works. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Solar Junction Box?
Yes. Share the base and lid drawings, material grade, part weights, mould dimensions, cavity counts and module output plans, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould solar connectors, electrical enclosures, smart meter enclosures and inverter body parts, subject to the specific mould.
