Injection Moulding Machine for Solar Connectors

Solar connectors of the MC4 type are moulded on small horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity tools, usually from PPO/PPE or UV-stabilised glass-filled PA66. Shot weight per part is low, so cavity count and thread cores size the machine. Material choice and drying decide whether the nut cracks in cold weather.

For solar connectors, machine selection focuses on shot accuracy, mould temperature control and unscrewing actions for the nut threads. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for solar connector parts and can recommend a configuration for housings and nuts.

Machine Requirements for Solar Connector Moulding

Connector housings and nuts must mate and lock for years on a solar array, so the machine has to deliver:

  • Unscrewing cores for coupling nut threads
  • Slides or lifters for latch hooks on the housing
  • Dried PPO/PPE and PA66 to keep impact strength
  • UV-stabilised grades for open-air array wiring
  • Wear-resistant screw for glass-filled connector grades
  • Repeatable shot so mating fit stays in tolerance

Recommended Machine for Solar Connectors

Male and female housings and nuts are small, so the E Series (75-180 T) handles most multi-cavity connector moulds. Higher cavity tools, or moulds with several unscrewing cores and a large base, may need the C Series (140-320 T) or the H Series (120-350 T). Metal contacts are crimped and assembled after moulding.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to what solar connector makers usually ask.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Solar Connectors?
Most housing and nut moulds run on E Series machines. Moulds with many cavities and unscrewing units can need a bigger platen and move to the C or H Series.
  • Why Do Solar Connector Nuts Crack in the Field?
Common causes are poor low-temperature impact strength, UV degradation of the plastic and nylon moulded without proper drying. Running the specified UV-stabilised grade, dried correctly, reduces these failures.
  • Are the Metal Contacts Moulded Into the Connector?
No. The contacts are crimped onto the cable and pushed into the moulded housing at assembly, where they lock in place. The housing is moulded as a plain plastic part.
  • How Are the Nut Threads Formed in the Mould?
Internal threads in the coupling nut are formed on unscrewing cores, which rotate out before ejection. Housing latch hooks are formed by slides or lifters.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Solar Connector?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each part, the material grade, part weights, mould sizes, cavity counts and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould solar junction boxes, electronic connectors, cable accessories and charger housings, subject to the specific mould.
