Injection Moulding Machine for Socket Outlet Bodies and Inserts

Socket outlet bodies and inserts are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines with multi-cavity tools, from PC, PC/ABS, PA66 or PBT. Body size, cavity count and the core pulls for pin entry holes set the machine. Wall thickness at the live-part carrier matters most, because glow wire approval of a grade holds only at the thickness tested.

For socket parts, machine choice turns on accurate filling of thin walls around contact pockets and drying of nylon and PBT. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for socket bodies and inserts and can recommend a configuration for your socket range.

Machine Requirements for Socket Outlet Moulding

A socket holds live contacts behind the face the user touches, so the insert walls carry the safety load. Points to check:

  • Carrier walls moulded at the thickness the grade is approved for
  • Contact pockets with stable dimensions for press-fit contacts
  • Clean pin entry holes with no flash at the openings
  • Drying of PA66 and PBT before every run
  • Wear protection where glass-filled grades are used
  • Separate small tool for POM or PA shutter parts

Recommended Machine for Socket Outlets

For socket inserts and small outlet bodies, the E Series (75-180 T) handles most multi-cavity tools. Larger multi-gang bodies, or tools with several side actions for pin holes, move to the C Series (140-320 T). For the biggest socket bodies and deep moulds, H Series (120-350 T) gives extra daylight and platen space.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions socket makers ask about grades, inserts and tools.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Socket Outlets?
Inserts and small bodies are commonly run on the E Series. Multi-gang bodies and tools with more side actions move to the C Series, and the largest bodies to the H Series. Urea socket bodies are thermoset and need another process.
  • Why Does Wall Thickness Matter for Glow Wire Approval?
A compound passes glow wire and flame tests at a stated thickness. Moulding the carrier thinner than that, to save material or cycle time, takes the part outside the approval, so wall thickness is fixed at the design stage.
  • Are Socket Contacts Moulded In or Assembled?
Contacts are mostly pressed into moulded pockets after moulding. Some carriers are insert moulded around the contacts, which needs insert loading time and a mould review before the machine is fixed.
  • Are Shutter Parts Moulded in the Same Tool?
Usually not. Child-safety shutters are small precision parts in POM or PA, run in their own multi-cavity tool, often on a smaller machine than the outlet body.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Socket Outlet?
Yes. Share the body and insert drawings or samples, grade, part weights, mould size, cavities and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes, mould permitting. Comparable machines run socket plates, modular switch parts, extension board bodies and plug tops.
